| rjcalnan's Full Review: Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter for PlayStation 2 |
I bought Star Wars Starfighter along with my PS2 about 3 months ago. The PS2 and the game went on eBay and I got what I paid for them, but I did want to write a review, so that people that are thinking of buying can make up their mind if they want to or not. The reason I sold my PS2 stuff was because I got laid off from Nortel Networks, along with 29,999 other people. My group got canned, so I had to go.
Anyway, back to the game:
First question: is it worth $49.99? Simple answer...NO. By now I'm guessing that you can get it on eBay for less, and you might as well, because chances are, unless you are TRULY a HARDCORE Star Wars fan, you will end up selling/trading this game for another that's worth keeping for a long period of time, or just another game in general.
Graphics: Astounding. The PS2 shines in all aspects. The explosions are to die for, no pun intended, and the scenery and background are incredible.
Sounds: Hook it up to an STR-DE845 (see my review of Sony recievers and why NOT to buy the STR-DE545) and a Wega TV and you've got a Star Wars movie running in your living room. Sad part is, I think the movies are longer than the game was to finish! Anyway, the sounds are Dolby Digital, and with the right sound equipment, you know it! Not that it won't sound good on a regular TV, just better on a stereo system.
Controls: A+ Took a while to get used to, as with any game, but these truly becamse second nature after going through the practice rounds. In terms of real controlability, these are PERFECT. The ships actually react with good control and response to what you tell the, now all analog, controller of the PS2.
Story: sucks...lame (Episode 1 like) story that's too short, and gives 0, Zero, NO fun when you beat the game...
Game: Easy...I guess it's harder on the HARD levels, but once you've beaten all three levels and find that they have the SAME EXACT ending, what's the value there??? Little to none...
Multiplayer: none, which it should, but the PS2 hasn't become Internet-able yet to have it included...maybe Lucas will do it right next time.
All in all, I guess if I had a PS2 again, and could find this for $25.00 or less, then yeah, I'd probably pick it up and keep it for a bit, play around blowing crap up for a half hour or so, and then take it out and let it collect a little more dust. Otherwise, if I could find someone who would pay me what I paid for it (which I did) it would be SOLD!
Good game, good name, good effects, crappy story, and just too darn easy!
