Head further south Nick it's still wild and wooley in Southern Belize and Honduras, for now.

...of the Yucatan, and I vividly recall the beauty of Tulum, Altun Ha and Tikal as I headed south into Belize and Guatemala in those days before the entire Mexican Yucatan coastline had been turned into one big resort.

I wrote a review on a Mexican hotel in which I mentioned three other places that are on the Yucatan just north of the ones you speak of. Chichen-itza, Coba, and Tulum. I thank you for this review. The Mayan ruins and civilization is a must for all.
