| lilgreenjellyb's Full Review: Hoyle Card Games 2000 |
Okay, I first set my eyes on this game as a demo download from tucows.com. I really liked it went to my local Walmart and found it, after quite a bit of running around. It was difficult to find, but anyways.
Originally I was looking for a game that I could learn to play and become a pro at Canasta, but after trying out all the games, I became very addicted, and somewhat of a cardshark I might add.
The charectors are somewhat whimsical at first but I soon tired of there mish mash jibber jabber, but there is an option to keep them quite which is nice. You can play with a range of serious to talkative, which allows you and entertaining look at each charectors own comments.
The face maker allows you to create your own personality, or you can pick from the many different preset faces to represent you in a card game. When I fist began playing I thought that the face I made would actually be the face that I would use for the "suggested" internet play, but alas, it was not to be. I wish I had have know this after putting so much time and effort into making a face. The actual internet play is sometimes frustrating and I've given up on it altogether. Although on the opening window of the game there is an internet link one would assume that this would bring you to a Hoyle card games page, instead it brings you to a UPROAR, IWIN type of enviornment to play. You do not even need to own the game to play these games online. I was disappointed because with the unique interface that this game offers I thought it would make for fun internet play, yet again I was extremly disappointed.
The graphics on this game were particularly well done for a game just relating to cards. I found that the different options of background and card types were clever and added some colour to the games. The music that installs with the game reminds of something you hear in an elevator or at the opening of a gameshow. I think the word for it is MUZAK!
What I did not like and still do not appreciate is the ad upon closing, advertising the various other Hoyle line games, board, word and casino I believe. In a demo I would expect something like this, but not from a full version game that I had spent $50.00 Cnd for. There are demos included and I did in fact buy the full version of Hoyle Board games because I enjoyed the demo so much. Isn't the demo advertisment enough!
There are many different kinds of games to play, and if you don't know how to play them, there is a little book about the size of an Archie Comic Book that comes with it. It provides instructions on game play, that if you did want to practice for a tournament, or become a cardshark to show off to all your friends, you can become a pro quite quickly with practice and time. Which you will steadily allot for this game! The games are all around family fun, which leave you having to draw straws around the dinner table for who gets to use the computer. GO FISH was one game that I did not enjoy at all. I felt as if it took too long to take a turn. With all the yap yap and having to chase a fish for your next card I gave up on it rather quickly, my son who is 7 really enjoys GO FISH so I guess I must have a short attention span or something.
