The Disney Princesses Birthday, AKA Missy's Disney Tinkerbell Extravaganza
May 19 '03
The Bottom Line The Disney Princesses Birthday / Tinkerbell Extravaganza was immense fun for all of the guests; but most importantly, the birthday girl was delighted.
Shortly after her 5th birthday celebration Marisa mentioned that she wanted to have a Disney Princesses Birthday for her 6th birthday, affirmed after a family vacation at Disneyland. During that trip Missy acquired a Disney Tinkerbell costume; she planned on wearing the costume for her birthday, Halloween and dress-up. Knowing how important the birthday celebration was to her; I wanted it to be very special. I spent time planning games, arts & crafts, food & beverage, and other activities. The pre-planning was beneficial and the Disney Tinkerbell Extravaganza was immense fun for all of the guests; but most importantly, the birthday girl was delighted.
Prepare, Invite, Prepare
Generally speaking, I begin preparation for the upcoming party two months prior. Initially I purchase needed paper goods, acquire treat bag stuffers and prepare an itinerary. The invitation list is finished, and invites are sent three-weeks prior to the party date. Within the invitation we included a note card sized enclosure, complete with a map to our home and instructions for the girls to arrive dressed as a Princess.
I ordered the Disney Princesses cake, from a local bakery, 2-weeks before the party. The bakery worked with us, creating a cake that met our theme need. One-week prior to the event I purchased appetizer ingredients and let my daughter put together the party favor bags. Each of the goodie bags included nail polish, lip gloss, ring sucker, stick on earrings, necklaces, stickers, and a variety of other items.
On the evening before we moved as much of the unneeded furnishings into the garage, opening more floor space. For this event a red carpet entrance was created. Next I created a royalty throne area, complete with a red carpet pathway. The throne area was within our living room, and served as the seating for 'A Picture with Tinkerbell and the seat my daughter occupied during gift time. For the backdrop I used a sheer curtain, embellished with pastel flowers and butterflies. We used several helium balloons, large tissue paper flowers, and flower petals (artificial, strewn onto the floor) for decoration. A handful of Tinkerbell party goods were used, including table coverings, plates, and napkins. However we supplemented with less expensive, pastel-colored paper goods, purchased in bulk. For background music, played various Disney soundtracks.

- Foam Frame & Picture with Tinkerbell
I provided a foam frame for each of the guests, and jewels to decorate the frame. I took a Polaroid photograph of each party guest, with Tinkerbell (my daughter, the birthday girl). The guests each had a memory of the day.
- Beaded Tiara's
Supplies Needed For Each Tiara
4- 12" Metallic Pipe Cleaners
12- Red Translucent Pony Beads
20- Pink Translucent Pony Beads
44- Crystal Faceted 8mm Beads
1.) Twist the ends of two stems together to make one 23" (approx.) stem that will fit around the princess' head.
Slide 20 pink and 5 red pony beads to the center of the 23" stem.
Gently bend stem into U-shape.
2.) Slide a 3rd 12" stem through the middle red bead and center it.
On one side, add 3 faceted beads, 1 red pony bead and 3 more faceted beads. Slide that end of the stem through the next red pony bead.
Repeat, finishing that side by sliding under the last red pony bead.
Repeat for other side.
Twist ends to secure beads.
3.) Slide 9 beads (4 faceted, 1 red pony bead, 4 faceted) to the center of the last 12" stem. Bend gently. Push each end through one of the red pony beads on the top middle of the tiara.
Add 7 beads to each side (3 faceted, 1 red pony bead, 3 faceted) and push ends through the remaining red pony beads. Twist to secure. Trim ends.
Fit around princess head. Twist ends. The metallic stem works like Velcro with hair and will stay securely in place.

- Star Wands
I purchased precut stars, thick, from the party section of a local craft store, and hot-glued them to a gold (spray-painted) paint stick. The girls decorated their own wand with glitter-glue, foil confetti and foil streamers.
- Create a Crown
Obtain pattern from: http://www.crayola.com/activitybook/print.cfm?id=553
- Toenail and/or Fingernail Painting
My oldest daughter and her friends offer this service.
- Color Sheet
I like to close the party with a coloring / art center. Most of the children have craft supplies at home, so they aren't disappointed if they have to complete the picture at home. This allows for a nice wind-down activity, and pulls the guests back together. Because I am unable to rely on the weather in January, it is important to have a variety of indoor activities.

Snack Attack
Beverage:
Sparkling Cider
I purchased disposable champagne glasses at a local party supply store, in bulk. Prior to the party day we precut curling ribbons streamers, curled them, and attached them to glass stem. The princesses were served sparkling cider, in the fancy glasses.
Snacks:
Sandwiches
I prepared plenty of sandwiches ham & cheese, turkey & cheese, and peanut butter & jelly the Pampered Chef Cut-N-Seal.
Other snacks included:
Strawberries Dipped In Chocolate
Mini Cutout Sugar Cookies
Crown Jewels (J-ello Jigglers)
Various Chips
Magic Wands (Pretzel Rods Dipped In Chocolate And Star Shape Sprinkles)
Tidbits
A noteworthy mention is that, although a portion of the paper goods used during the party were Trademarked, I kept the expense minimal by using mostly non-Trademarked items. In addition I shopped ahead, for the best deals on party favors. Often times online sites such as Oriental Trading Company are the best places to purchase party favors and other party supplies.
I wanted all of the girls to have fun, and certainly didn't want any person that arrived lacking a costume to feel left out. So I set aside a bin of dress-up items, just in case. It so happened that all of the girls embraced the idea, and all of them showed up in costume. Attendees included Snow White, Cinderella, Pocahontas, Mulan, Aerial and several non-specific princesses. The parents commented with regard to how much fun it was for the girls to dress-up. I really enjoyed witnessing the full smiles, giggles, and abundance of laughter.
I always try to plan more events than are necessary, hopefully avoiding the boredom mode. Although I have a party schedule, I always follow the lead given by the girls, always willing to allow certain activities to take more time, if level of interest indicates a need.
Other parties have included Lilo & Stitch,
Hello Kitty, Barbie, Slumber, LadyBugs, and Winnie-The-Pooh.
