If you are looking for a way to process credit cards and have pretty highlevel technical know how, Authorize.net is your friend. Comprising a large amount of features, Authorize.net allows for modification of every aspect of the payment process including things such as modification of the HTML output on the server end.
It is perhaps this high-end ability to customize that would make it daunting for the new user on the net. This coupled with quite a high percentage and startup cost leads to Authorize.net's demise.
In a way however, the daunting of the newbie user is helped along by massive product support. Ranging from simple form based purchases to full shopping cart systems Authorize.net has probably had support built for it into the program at hand.
For the techies of the arena Authorize.net is great. Not only does it allow full customization it also has a VERY FULL and COMPREHENSIVE documentation site outlining in detail the codes outputed by the server.
