Take out Overboard, insert Love Actually, and your list will be perfect (even the honorable mentions!)

Hang on, have I erally not replied to this comment already?!?! Oh well, forgetful genius (I hope...)
I'll have to look that one up, I don't think I've seen it. High Fidelity is now on my "to watch" list as well. And how can you not like Renee Zellweger (for any length of time?!?!?) :A?S?!"?

loved the list... (Reply to this comment)
by aeoluscmc
there are days when I prefer the other Nick Horny adaptation, High Fidelity, to About a Boy but I at least liked everything (except Down With Love, was going through my anti-Renee phase when I watched it -- and loved most -- of the movies on your list.
but speaking of katherine and cary, have you seen philadelphia story? (also has jimmy stewart) that's my favorite katherine/cary combo, though I also loved bringing up baby :)

I prefer the original Humphrey Bogart Audrey Hepburn Sabrina to the remake as well! (although the remake wasn't bad) Also loved the inclusion of Benny and Joon, a sweet film.

I can't remember if I've seen that one or not, and I have no idea how long ago it was that I saw Bringing Up Baby either! I think they're both due a viewing soon, either way! :-D

Yes, most of your picks are spot-on, except for your appreciation of Bringing Up Baby. Have you seen The Philadelphia Story? It is, I believe, a superior Hepburn/Grant romantic comedy.

Ah well it's probably because I like our Humph... though I do like Harrison Ford and Greg Kinear's pretty good too. Just couldn't get into Phantom, but that did seem to be a love-it-or-hate-it film.
Thanks for the comment!

Lovely Picks (Reply to this comment)
by QuinnElaine
I have to say that I prefer the remake of Sabrina...but then I was never really a Humphrey fan, Audrey is the only reason I watch that one. As for the whole age difference thing, yeah I think it's ridiculous that Hollywood does these things (casting older, well-known actors with young leading ladies), but sometimes the actors manage to make us overlook that in really dramatic ways. Like The Phantom of the Opera...the age difference between Butler and Rossum is large, but they have wonderful on screen chemistry. Just my thoughts.

I can't believe you included Sabrina. Aside from being dull Bogart was old enough to be her father in this movie and they were trying to pass him off as being the playboy rebel son. Maybe had he made this movie 15 years earlier.
Just had a strong reaction to that pick.

Hi Lily!
Glad to see someone agrees with my no.1 choice!! Also glad to see you've found time to look at some of my reviews in between trying to kill me in X-Kings!!! :-P
My Top Ten of 2004 may be a while coming... I think I've only seen 7 films made in 2004 worthy of being in a "Best of2 list so far!

OK,
I admit, despite the fact that it might have been better for the figure skater to turn hockey player than a hockey player to turn figure skater, I liked this one too. Is that wrong of me? I think not.
Scott
P.S. The figure skater turning hockey player plot line might have been a little odd anyway.

Hey Tim, thanks for the rate! :-)
Did your mum tell you that you've got a staring role in Lord of the Things Act 5 when it comes out? I think I have you pencilled in for the Lord of the Nazgul - nope that's Nedi actually, you're Faramir, and dear little Skeeter is the terrifying Shelob. (First time a dog's ever appeared as a spider?)

Well, hopefully my rating will push you up in the rankings slightly :) I don't think Sleepless In Seattle is all that great either, they don't even know each other hardly. One heard the other on the radio, the other doesn't even know that the one EXISTS! Then they see each other across the street and we're supposed to believe they even know who the other is, let alone that on the offchance they did know, that the awkwardness of having never met face to face, never having SPOKEN to each other, wouldn't blast away all traces of possible feelings for each other in the moment. Okay, I only saw it twice so I'm sure I'm forgetting something. Oh well.
See ya,
TIM

Well, it did make me appreciate some of Hugh Grant's lines (like the pediatrics one), but I still find the premise to be boring the film very formulaic. I've been planning on writing my own review. Maybe I'll get around to it soon!

I see you've toddled off and had a look now - did it convince you?!?!? (You've now made me wonder if I was simply beguiled by the clever dialogue in that film... damn you!! :-P)
(In my defence, that review was written in the bad old days when my reviews weren't nearly as good as they are now...)
Thanks for the comment!

Re: Hello Dave in Merry Old England (Reply to this comment)
by captaind
Hi Missy...
Nope, it wasn't renamed - I just typed in the wrong darn film name!!! A Life Less Ordinary was a film I saw ages ago with Ewan McGregor and Cameron Diaz - http://www.epinions.com/mvie_mu-1079444 - it wasn't very good though.
Dunno how I got it mixed up with "As Good as it Gets" though... :-O - maybe I was just nervous about what Shelly was going to put as her next comment... :-d
Thanks for pointing out my bizarre error!!!

Hello Dave in Merry Old England (Reply to this comment)
by pnutmom
"A Life Less Ordinary"? Must've re-named it for release in England...here in the US it was "As Good As It Gets". Somewhere (I think it may have been China) it was translated into "The Guy With No Cat" or something like that. Craziness!

Well I'm terminally offended etc etc... have you read my exchanges with Carl? We're at each other's throats all the time and best of friends... I don't get offended by anything said in jest, only if someone's serious (and seriously getting on my nerves!) ;-D

PS - after reading your comments (Little Mermaid indeed... it wasn't terrible but it wasn't particularly good... whoops did I just admit I watched Little Mermaid? Er... my niece made me watch it with her... yeah, that's how it happened...) - um where was I? Oh yeah - after reading your comments, I have to say that it's YOU that there's no hope for!!! :-P
