Pros: This computer rocks right out of the box!
Cons: It will be obsolete as soon as the next model comes out.
The Bottom Line: A good buy! For the price you get an expandable, reliable, and versatile computer that's fast and supported by its manufacturer.

Right out of the box, this computer was working...and working well. Outfitted with a fast system (not cutting edge but still world's ahead of my last computer), this box has not only a 'greater-than 1GHz processor speed' but fast memory, a high-capacity hard drive, and excellent multimedia capabilities.
I was surprise at how many extension features there are, what with the extra PS2 ports and front and back USB connections. At first, I was a little skeptical of the infrared USB mouse, however, I have been using it since I brought this system home with virtually no problems in every application from Desktop Publishing to Graphic Design.
In addition, I am extremely pleased with the CD-R/CD-RW included, as mere years ago this would have cost hundreds and required 2-3 different bays and power sources. As a multimedia producer, having the ability to burn CD's, as well as using the CD-RW during development, has been invaluable.
I would not necessarily recommend this computer to a beginner, as the reasons I like it may be beyond them at first. For one thing, I had the Windows Pro 2000 OS put on mine and most importantly, I will go the extra mile to get an AMD processor over an Intel one. (Don't even get me started on serial number tracking over the Internet with Pentiums!) They are just as reliable and just plain faster than their Intel peers.
In the past, I have always built my computers from scratch, having had a really bad experience with a mail-order company in my early days. The new Gateways, however, are cheaper than I can build them myself and come with a tech support and service guarantee that outshine the rest.
