Pros: Really happy with black and white and color quality, speed, and duplexing
Cons: Installing paper types and sizes is necessary but clumsy, manual feed is painful
The Bottom Line: Buy it. Solid, fast enough, good quality prints, wide range of paper types, weights, but a little clumsy to get to all of the capabilities and it needs more memory.
buyer94550's Full Review: Hewlett Packard LaserJet 2605dn Printer
After 7 months, still pretty happy with it for home use. Pretty quick, with color and black and white about the same speed. Good color on plain paper, better on HP photo paper. Have printed on paper from 3x5 index cards to 8-1/2 by 11 photo paper and envelopes with no problems. Duplexing works great. I like the HP approach that replacing the toner is all it needs -- no separate drum or other maintenance -- but I haven't used up what came with the printer yet. The build quality seems really solid.
BUT, you need to be the (Windows) computer admin to access the different paper types and add them to the printer definition; they aren't installed by default and I haven't been able to just specify a custom size from Word. There's no autodetect for paper stock; if you have heavy weight paper and don't specify it before printing, the printer will mess up the alignment and the prints will be ruined. The manual feed can be made to work, but it's not as easy as on my 15-year old laserjet. In particular, it doesn't seem to automatically detect that you're manually feeding it and the printer sometimes grabs the paper in the paper tray in addition to the manually fed paper. Also, it you want to print full-color, full-size pages, it needs more memory ($46 for 128 MB from Crucial).
All in all, about what I expected and I'm pretty happy with it. I'd get another.
