Pros: A very solid, reliable phone
Cons: Irritatiing menu structure, too many buttons to press
The Bottom Line: A very good phone at this level, though the whole scene will change quickly in the next few years.

| doug123e's Full Review: LG VX8300 V Cast Music Phone |
I like LG a lot -- we've gone through six or more and the ones that were lost or died were our fault. (For example, be careful with this one when it is open, the screen is easy to crack -- my bad.) I wish it was smaller and lighter, but it is not terrible on this score. The color is kind of ugly after a while.
It is sometimes a pain to use in the way most cellphones are; if you don't remember exactly which buttons to press to get to something, you waste time and attention. The memo feature is bizarre, it behaves totally differently, and the alarm doesn't let you note what the alarm is FOR (use the calendar). Hence a lot of neat functions go entirely unusued by most people.
GPS works fairly well & VZ Navigator is fairly intelligent (not always! on our last trip it kept insisting we were out offshore). With some work I have gotten the phone to talk to my computer via bluetooth and bitpim. One thing I really like is that LG has gone to a standardized battery that works in various of the newer models.
A shopping tip: Consider eBay. I have purchased the last two VX8300's for about $110 each, where I did not have access to a Verizon discount.
If you are in the market for a phone this nice, do consider alternatives. I confess -- I want the iPhone, but not at the price, having to switch carriers, and giving up GPS. Do however play with one to see how this phone's user interface SHOULD be.
