| KPetzold's Full Review: Superbad |
I heard a line in the promo thats airing for this that said this will be the movie of the year to Quote and I have to say that I agree and have already been guilty of using the one-liners for my own amusement.
I saw this movie at a sneak peak premier last night at a packed to capacity theater. So, I knew Id get a good mix of reaction from other people as we watched the movie.
Story Basics:
The story is primarily about 2 friends who are in their senior year of high school and havent been too lucky with the ladies. One is a boisterous crude guy and the other is a more reserved quiet guy
basically they balance one another well and have a very believable friendship. The two have been inseparable their entire lives, but thats about to change. They have decided to go to different colleges and will be apart for the first time. They decided that they want their high school lives to end with one wild night.
Add to the main story the additional story of a guy who can best be described as their sidekick aka McLovin. Who, through a series of funny events, spends the night hanging out with quite possibly the 2 worst cops ever.
Both story lines meet and combine to create a wild and crazy night.
My Thoughts:
Lets get it out there and up front
this movie is very CRUDE! It has a lot of male humor in it with tons of sexually charged conversations. This is not a movie for those who are easily offended.
The sexual content is mostly reserved to discussion, jokes and references. There is no nudity, but a lot of strong language, along with some pretty funny, but crude drawings.
That being said, I really enjoyed this movie. I laughed till it hurt and then laughed some more. I can best relate this to older generational movies like Animal House and Porkys. It has the same feel and themes
young guys causing mischief and being wild, and I do believe it has the potential to be just as memorable.
The writing is phenomenal for this type of movie. Its packed with quick witty one-liners and hysterical conversations and situations. The acting is very believable and casting is perfect. Not once did I get bored watching this movie.
The entire theater seemed to be rolling at the jokes in Superbad. I tried to listen to people on the way out and I didnt hear one complaint, but did hear a lot of people talking and laughing about it while quoting lines.
