I will admit that I don't use my dishwasher regularly and the main reason is that it just didn't get the job done. I was re-washing the dishes that I put in there and I resorted to just doing the dishes by hand. However there have been many times that I wish I could rely on a dishwashing liquid for my dishwasher to save time and make things easier. I think I have found just that.
The comparison that I made was between Cascade Complete and Electrasol Advanced. Both came in a liquid form and had the same amount in their bottle which is 75 oz. or 2.1 kg. That was about the only common factors that the two dishwashing liquids shared.
Electrasol Advanced 2in1 Powergel
Electrasol comes in three different packaging scents: The fresh scent, lemon scent and orange scent. The one I received to try was in lemon scent. I could barely tell that there was a lemon scent, as it just smelled like dishwashing cleaner. The Electrasol is combined with the popular Rise Agent made by JET-DRY.
When I looked it up on the Electrasol website I found that this particular product had a lot of information on it. The claim of the company was:
1) gets your dishes and glasses sparkling clean the first time. It dissolves quickly and completely, getting to work straight away
2) Easy-pour gel dissolves quickly and completely!
Directions:
For Best Results, read the manufacturers instruction booklet that came with your dishwasher, then follow these simple directions:
1) Load Dishes Properly. Soiled surfaces should face spray. Do not block spray to top rack.
2) Fill All Cups Completely. For heavily soiled dishes or hard water, use slightly more detergent. Use less detergent for very soft water.
3) Avoid Dishware Damage. Separate stainless steel from sterling silver. Do not spill detergent directly onto silver items.
4) For Tough Cleaning Jobs. Pre-treat by applying ELECTRASOL® 2in1 PowerGel® directly to dishes. Avoid contact with fabric.
5) In hard water conditions, it may be necessary to continue to use JET-DRY® Rinse Agent for optimal results.
6) Optimal water temperature is 140ºF.
7) ELECTRASOL® 2in1 PowerGel® is safe for septic systems.
8) Store in a cool place.
9) Avoid freezing.
I didn't quite understand the "pre-treat" considering I thought the Electrasol would be strong enough to tackle that in the actual dishwasher. I read all the information and decided to take a week and just use the Electrasol in my dishwasher.
During the week I made fresh Chinese stir fry, chicken cooked on George Foreman (removeable plates), steamed fresh vegetables each day from broccoli to squash, King Crab Legs, beef stew, and homemade cinnamon buns. Those are the major dishes that I recorded making that would be difficult to clean.
Each night I would load the dishwasher, whether I had enough to completely fill out to see what the morning results would be. My biggest complaint was the residue left on all of my glasses nearly everyday. I ended up cleaning them by hand and throughout the entire week, it didn't change. Another issue that came about was the beef stew. It just didn't seem to get clean on the sides inside the pot. The only other noticeable problem was making the Pillsbury Cinnamon Buns as a treat. I didn't get the cookie sheet into the dishwasher until evening so it did sit out since breakfast time. Regardless it didn't even look like it was washed at all after putting it through twice.
I was not impressed for the week that the Electrasol was used as a way to clean my silverware and dishes. There was residue each day that were very obvious on the glasses. I also had streaks showing on them as well. The silverware had water spots.
The only easy part about the Electrasol I can think of was the flip top opening. It made it very easy to pour into the cups. Besides that, I would not recommend this product to anyone I know.
Cascade Complete
Moving onto a different dishwashing liquid all together named Cascade Complete. It comes in a metallic green bottle that is easy to carry by its handle. The top of Cascade Complete is that it is child proof. You have to squeeze the cap to make it rotate and then open it up. I don't have any issues with safety in my house but for families with little ones, this is a nice feature. I will say that the cap can be difficult to get off at times.
The best part of Cascade Complete was reading the bottle where it states, "Cleans so well...no need to pre-wash." I was excited about being able to throw in plates and coffee cups without rinsing them off first. The bottle also listed that it "Dissolves Food and Rinses Clean." It also has a "shine shield to help protect your glasses from etching."
I decided to give the same test of a week or so with various dinners and lunches I made. I had some similar dishes such as Teriyaki Stir Fry and Steamed Veggies. However I also changed things around with steak, mashed potatoes, GrapeNuts, Salmon, Lasagna and Eggplant Parmesan. There was definitely some difficult dishes that Cascade Complete was going to have to tackle.
I was more than just impressed by the performance of Cascade Complete. It smells just like a cleaner would, but it does the job better than any other dishwashing liquid that I have ever tried. The bright blue liquid is recommended to use both cups in your dishwasher which I followed. There are other scents available fresh scent, citrus breeze scent and melon blossom.
When the load was done and the drying complete, my dishes and glasses looked great. I didn't have any water spots which is sort of a pet peeve of mine. My glasses didn't have any streaks and sparkled clean. My pots and pans that I threw in without rinsing them out thoroughly came out with no residue. There wasn't one piece of silverware that had food left on it. I was really pleased with the results. Throughout the entire week and then some I can't think of a complaint regarding the Cascade Complete.
The average price that I saw for Cascade Complete was less than $5.00 which I believe is reasonable. I have used others for the same price and received horrible results.
If you take and compare Electrasol and Cascade Complete then you would come to the conclusion that I did. Cascade Complete is on a different playing field and does a fantastic job. I will continue to use it and see myself buying it in the future.
