Oh boy, the product picture actually does it justice! It's chocolate upon chocolate upon chocolate upon chocolate.
It says "Double Chocolate" when in reality, there are four layers of chocolate. To start with, the puffed crisps are flavored with chocolate. Then there are chocolate chips mixed in with those. After that, the bottom of the bar is dipped in chocolate and, finally, the top is drizzled with chocolate as well. Yum! The great thing about the EAS bar is that the chocolate has a strong cocoa taste. For dark chocolate lovers, this is a particular treat.
Thanks to all the chocolate saturation, the crisp bar is not dry like other bars. Instead, it has a perfect crispy/chewy texture that makes up for the fact it is not a granola bar. Instead, it's like enjoying a Nestle Krisp bar without all the guilt! Of course, it's also more substantial because its more crispy puffs than candy.
Compared to the Atkins Advantage bars, the EAS bars offer a whole lot more for only an extra 20 calories and the same net carb count. Both offer 17g of protein and 8 grams of fat. However, there are only 3 mystery carb as compared to Atkins 9 mystery carbs. Plus, the EAS bar is 60g while the Atkins bar is only 48g. Clearly the EAS bar is going to be much more filling! Furthermore, the EAS bars have a mean average of 30% of nearly the same vitamins and minerals, compared to Atkins average of 15%. The only drawback is that the EAS bar offers calcium at 30% while Atkins is 50% of the RDA for calcium. When you look at the ingredient list, you can tell why the EAS bar is more flavorful. While Atkins has soy constantly repeating, EAS has cocoa as its repeating ingredient. YAY! :)
Never heard of EAS before? EAS is short for Energy-Athletics-Strength. The company was founded in 1990 by Bill Phillips. He is the author of best seller "Body-for-LIFE." They are known for their Myoplex and AdvantEDGE products. The website offers a free sample.
