I was interested to read some reviews on this car, and my impressions have been confirmed. I recently read an article in some car mag that the styling is a tad off but at least in the convertible it flows. Needless to say, styling would have absolutely no influence on my choice of car.
However, I was startled to see the curb weight of the 130 (or is it 128?) convertible to be ~3500 pounds. Holy cow! I sure don't like that. It's really too bad that cars are getting so heavy.
I have a friend in Italy who has just gotten a really, really good job that pays a lot of money. He has the option and financial wherewithal to buy a gasoline powered higher HP type car of german persuasion in the 6 or 8 cylinder range. However, he chooses to continue driving his 1991 Renault Clio 16v, all ~2000lbs of it with its 140hp. No doubt about it, the new cars are so much more capable, but you feel like you're doing so much more in a lighter car.
When was the last time you throttle steered a vehicle? Some of these newer cars can easily do it on corner exit with full power. Hell, the new Ferraris drive themselves so well you can keep the gas mashed down, never brake and come within a few tenths of a second of the lap times of the Ferrari test pilots. Yet, when was the last time you actually lifeted off the throttle to tuck in the rear end and could control the tail's yaw before corner apex just by tweaking your right foot off the gas? Is there a car on the road today that can do this? I haven't done it in the USA since I gave away my 95 Maxima. I did it in Italy a few times a couple years ago with older cars. It's special.
I miss those older cars..... like my wife's 102hp Civic.
Thanks for sharing and ciao!
