What I Like to Eat (Food- Lovers Write- Off)
May 27 '05
The Bottom Line I love to eat and drink and I'm not very picky (except with beer), but I enjoy some things much more than others.
I love good food and drink. Dining out at a fancy new restaurant, visiting my favorite sports bar, or even a casual dinner at home can be made more enjoyable if the most palate- pleasing products are readily within my reach. Thus, when fellow Epinions member Three_Ster sent me an invitation to his new write- off about favorite foods, I gladly accepted the offer. We all know what my preferred beverage is, but not many out there know about my preferences in food.
So, without further ado, here is my list of personal indulgences.
What is my favorite:
1. Soft Drink: Diet Coke. I have been hooked on Diet Coke for a long time. I got into the Diet Coke habit not necessarily as a way to save calories, but as a way to better manage my calories. Since I dont think the added calories are worth the taste benefits, I switched to Diet Coke as a way to eliminate calories in one area (soft drinks) so I can use them in another without feeling guilty.
2. Ice Cream Flavor: Brownie Fudge Nut. I love almost any flavor of ice cream, but the richer flavors are the most exceptional. I usually have to visit Baskin Robbins, Brusters, Ben and Jerrys, or some other specialty store to find the really good flavors like the one mentioned above.
3. Fast Food Restaurant: Wendys. I dont eat much fast- food but when I do, Wendys is my restaurant of choice. The burgers are much fresher- tasting than other fast- food giants like McDonalds and Burger King.
4. Type of Pizza: Meat- Enhanced. I cannot narrow down to one favorite in this category. I like pizza with several different meats, with onions, green peppers, and assorted herbs and spices. I like almost all toppings except mushrooms and anchovies. I also like barbecued chicken pizza. My favorite pizza chains are Pizza Hut and Papa Johns, but the best carry- out pizzas are usually those offered at local mom and pop restaurants.
5. Thanksgiving Dinner: Ham. I dont like turkey, so Thanksgiving to me means ham, sweet potatoes, hot buttered rolls, and some good, strong ale to wash it all down.
6. Snack Food: Little Debbie Cakes. Not only are they inexpensive, the individual packages make them great for people on the go. And they satisfy that mid- afternoon craving for sweets.
7. Side Dish: Potatoes. I like them in most forms, but au gratin ranks as my favorite.
8. Food to Eat While Driving: Pop- Tarts. When I dont wake up in time for a normal breakfast of cereal and milk, Pop Tarts make a nice alternative for the most important meal of the day. They are not messy or sloppy in any way, so you can eat them while you drive without much distraction.
9. Food for Breakfast: Cereal. I dont like the taste of eggs very much and pancakes are often too filling. Cereal is not only better for you, it doesnt require any preparation. And I have always loved the taste of grains.
10. Sit-Down Restaurant: Outback Steak House. I dread the long wait for a table, but once inside, I love almost everything else about this restaurant. A plump, juicy steak and a glass or two of fine brew make this an enjoyable place that ranks high on my dining list for myself and my mates.
11. Italian Dish: Lasagna. Most any Italian dish is good, but lasagna is my favorite. I dont care if its served at Olive Garden, Fazolis, or from the grocers freezer. I like lasagna in almost any form, but I prefer beef over sausage and cottage cheese over ricotta.
12. Chinese Dish: Mongolian Beef. A little spicy but not too much, this is makes a nice companion to a bottle of Chinese beer. I prefer mine served on fried rice.
13. Sandwich: Philly Steak. You have to shop around to find a good one, but when you do, it is worth the effort.
14. Cheese: Kraft Extra Sharp Cheddar. It provides lots of cheese taste at a low price. Did I also mention that it goes well with many different beers?
15. Donut: Krispy Kreme Glazed. Hot and Now is my motto when it comes to donuts. Besides the glazed, the Bavarian cream is also very tasty and very addictive.
16. Type of dessert: Pecan Pie. I like pecan pie the best, even though I realize this is one of the most caloric types of desserts available. Ice cream ranks a close second.
17. Type of Cake: German Chocolate. I like most any type of cake, but this style of chocolate is tops on my list.
18. Vegetable: Peas & Carrots. I dont find many different vegetables to my liking, but this mixture is good for its nutritional balance and combination of flavors. I love potatoes and corn more, but in my opinion, these are not really true vegetables because of their starch content.
19. Fruit: Strawberries. Berries are my favorite type of fruit, and strawberries are my preference among them. The only frustrating thing about strawberries is when they go out of season and you have to wait a few months before they become available again.
20. Food In Bed: Fem
., Oh, I mean, Ice Cream. Many things (ahem) are tasty in bed, but I have to go with ice cream on this one. Since I spend my days and evenings at work, school, and play, by the time I get to bed it is usually around 11pm or later. And at that hour, the only thing I would likely be taking to bed to eat would be a sweet, late night snack. Ice cream is my sweet food of choice.
21. Beer: ??????. This is an impossible question to answer because there are so many great tasting beers. I love Samuel Smith Taddy Porter, Schneider Weisse, North Coast brewerys Pranqster Belgain Ale, Anderson Valleys Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout, and countless others. There is no possible way to narrow it down to one favorite.
22. Drink with Dinner: Beer. What did you expect me to say? The Nectar of the Gods is good with almost anything, anytime, anyplace.
23. Fruit Juice: Orange Juice. I like to drink a glass in the mornings, along with my bowl of cereal, before starting my day.
and Finally...
24. What is your favorite meal? Steak and Potatoes. This is probably why Outback is my favorite sit- down restaurant chain. My ideal meal includes a choice cut of steak, cooked medium well; baked potato with sour cream, butter, and chives; hot buttered rolls; fresh peas or green beans; and a glass of stout, porter, or English ale to make it complete.
The proper selection of food and drink can make any dining situation that much more enjoyable. I like most any type of food and I have been told that I am easy to cook for because I will happily accept just about any meal placed in front of me. Im not as picky as others (except when it comes to booze), but I still feel best when the grub is specially selected to suit my tastes.
