| djsker's Full Review: Radisson Cable Beach Casino and Golf Resort |
So you are deciding to go to the Bahamas and don't know where to stay. In my opinion, you only have two choices: 1)Atlantis on Paradise Island or 2) the Radisson Cable Beach Resort and Casino.
If you want to spend alot of money, I would go for the Atlantis. I could tell you all about it, but that would be a review for the Atlantis, which this is not. Anyway, If you want to conserve some money and still have a great time, you should stay at the Radisson (you could still go over to Atlantis for a $5 cab ride)
The Radisson is connected to the Marriot by a long long hall(which has shops and boutiques along the way).....which brings you to THE CASINO(great for all you gamblers). Its not even a 2 minute walk. And you dont even have to go outside the building to get there.
The Radisson is about 7 - 9 stories high(if i remember correctly). When you call to make reservations, demand for an ocean view room. DO NOT stay in anything else. The rooms are ordinary (nothing special, but not trashy either), unless you happen to get a suite which is atleast twice the size of their normal rooms. The building is almost shaped in a U and the suites are at the tips of the U, which directly face the ocean (great view). With the suites, you get a mini fridge, a coffee maker, there's eat-in kitchens(which are good if you are having company, you could use it like a bar). You could probably sleep about 6 people in the suite, compare to an uncomfortable four in the regular rooms.
If you don't get lucky enough to get a suite, then my second choice would be to get a first floor ocean view. Why the 1st floor you ask? There really is no view from the first floor but there is great access! The rooms could face a waterfall or pool or just greenery. The reason I say access is because the lounge chairs for the pools and beach are taken very quickly and early. So if you happen to wake up at 7am, instead of walking down hallways and elevators, you could just grab a towel and run to the pool(about 50 ft, maybe less) and save yourself some chairs. The same goes for the beach chairs too. Get them as early as possible. The weather is usually perfect all year round. I think it rained once I was there and it was at night. The temperature could get very hot, so pray for some ocean breezes.
The pool is huge. Waterfalls, caves, mist machines, oh, did i mention there was a POOL BAR?! This is key, especially around 4 - 7 pm. After laying on the beach or at the pool all day, now it's time to drink as the sun is setting. This is a great spot to stay refreshed and drink some 'Riviera's'
if you dont feel like basking in the hot sun all day.
If you decide to use the beach, they let you use free snorkel gear, rafts, and paddle boats. If you want to be a little more adventurous and spend some money, then walk all the way to the right side of the beach (towards the Marriot) you could take a wave-rider out or go water skiing or go para-sailing. I wouldn't pay more then $40 for a half hour on the wave-runner ( you could possibly get it to $30, good luck) or for water skiing. Parasailing is about $80 for a double, i dont remember what it was for a single, maybe $45. You could let the bahamians argue for your money and maybe you could get a great deal.
The beach is a very nice size, it is the biggest beach on the Cable Beach side of the island, and i think the nicest.
As far as eating goes, the breakfast is ok, its a buffet, every morning. I think it ends around 10am maybe 11am. Lunch I never really ate while i was there but that is also a buffet. The lunch food is not all that great, but what do you expect for a hamburger or grilled chicken or hotdog. Just eat enough to hold you over until dinner. There are about seven, yes , 7 restaurants in the hotel itself. They have Italian, Mexican, American, Seafood, Bahamian restaurants. For the most part, the food is pretty good and prepared very well. I think in most of the restaurants you have to wear casual attire(no shorts, bathing suits, etc).
They also have some comedy shows and singing shows. They are ok to kill some time. There is a nice bar in the back of the main lobby with a lounge and another one down the stairs from the main lobby. They have bands play sometimes, so this is where alot of people hang out and drink.
As far as off the Resort, you could go to the straw market(although I heard some of it burnt down recently, so I dont know what is going on there now), $3 - $5 cab ride. Shop to your hearts intent. Haggle with everyone on everything. You could always get the price lower then the original asking price.
They have clubs there but I dont recommend them unless you are there during spring break. Otherwise they are empty and boring and a waste of money.
Find a sports bar or restauant to hang out in if you feel the need to get out of the resort. Or go over to Paradise Island and gamble at the Atlantis or you could sight see there too.
The reason I go to the Bahamas is to relax, sit in the sun, and get drunk. But whatever your reason, this place is the pick unless you have money to spend then stay at the Atlantis.
Oh, when you book it,YOU MUST GET the ALL INCLUSIVE package. Its like $200 more and very well worth it. If you drink on the resort, you dont have to pay for. If you eat at the resort, you dont have to pay for it, and with 7 places to eat, thats great. Free food and Alcohol, can you get better then that. Although technically you really did pay for it. If you dont get the all inclusive package you will wind up with a hefty bar tab ($8 - $10) a mixed drink and like $4 - 6$ a beer. You figure out how much you drink and do the calculating and decide whether the $200 is worth it. As for the food, I dont know how much that stuff cost. I do know cigarettes in the Bahamas are expensive, $5 or more a pack. Buy a carton before you go.
I have been to the Bahamas twice and have stayed at the Radisson both times. It is our favorite place in the Bahamas, except we might try the Atlantis next time. Other wise this place is perfect.
