I have not had a good experience with Career Builder at all! I receive spam by the thousands. If you have previously blocked companies from viewing your resume and contacting you, DO NOT change your resume in any way. The blocks are removed. That includes the thousands of insurance recruiters that are desperate for new agents and have already called you multiple times and you've told them to stop calling. They don't even know they called within the past two weeks and I said no the first time.
I have never received so much spam as I do through Career Builder. Monster and other job sites have controlled that effectively, yet Career Builder says they are unable to do so.
Their job recommendations are useless. Since when did Marketing (my field), become the same as nursing, engineering, IT and yes even doctors and dentists? They initiated a new "service" in which you could rate the matches that are sent. It doesn't work!! No matter how many times I have given a posting thumbs down, I still receive the same post in recommendations multiple times over several weeks. Why even put up the option if it doesn't do what you need it to do which is weed out jobs that have nothing to do with what you are looking for?
Customer service is awful as well. Frankly, they just don't care and the people you speak to are impolite and insincere. Their tone of voice alone lets you know that they really could care less. I have called constantly because for some reason I cannot "save" a job when I do find something I am interested in applying for. It has never been fixed. I have called and asked why blocks are removed when a resume is updated. I was told they couldn't do anything about that, once again, Monster has no problem with that.
I still go there to see if anything not on Monster or other sites has been posted, but I have put my resume on private. I would never buy anything from them. A work search support group in my area has also given Career Builder a big thumbs down for all of the reasons I have stated. We know that we have to look, but we also know that buying something from them is throwing away money and that having your resume public in any way is an opening for spam. We don't use it if we don't have to. If a job is posted at another site, I will use that one for submissions. Let them get the credit for traffic.
