When I order product online, what I look for is reliability and service. I want to feel secure that when I provide a company with my credit card number and order a product, I want that product delivered to my home in a reasonable amount of time, and I want prompt attention and rectification of any problems that may arise. So far, in my experience, DVD Empire has a spotless record. I've probably ordered close to 30 DVD's from this vendor. All DVD's were delivered promptly (depending on my delivery option) and the prices were usually as good or often better that others I have seen. There was only one problem, when I received my "Gladiator" DVD, the main disc was cratched up, rendering it unplayable. I sent it back and within 2 days I received a new DVD in perfect condition. In the end, reliable service like this is the most important criteria I used when selecting an online vendor.
As to the the web site itself, it's very well thought out. Navigation is easy and very simple to use. Selecting the movie of your choice is very simple. The movies are all categorized, and if you like to browse, there are several categories you can peruse including several bestseller lists.
The selection is extensive. I have not yet encountered a movie I wanted which was out of stock. The popular selections usually seem to be always available. Some of the older movies, those which have had their day in the past, seem to be the one which are not in stock. There are also other sections in the web site which I have personally not used, such as DVD audio, and a DVD games sections.
Each DVD has detailed technical specs which you can research before you buy. Many DVD's have fairly in depth reviews (I don't know if they are professional critics are selected customer reviews) which discusses the content of the disc, including the image and sound quality. Some of the more popular DVD's have selected screenshots, and all have magnified images of the front and back covers of the DVD case.
All orders are given basic tracking information. The instant your order is received (i.e. a few seconds), a confirmatory notice is sent to your e mail. You receive a second notification when the item is actually shipped.
As for customer service, I've never had occassion to use it, so I can't comment. But the fact that in some 30 or so transactions I've never had to use it is a good thing.
I rarely buy DVD's in stores now. I usually order 2 or more DVD's at a time, avoid sales tax, and pay a few bucks for the shipping charge. Usually in 2 (sometimes 3) days, it arrives at my doorstep. I wish all things in life were this easy.
