Three_ster's Good Eats w/o (with apologies to Alton Brown)
Jun 10 '05
The Bottom Line My bottom line is just fine, in spite of what I eat.
Is any one keeping track of the number of entries in three_ster's Food Lover's Write Off? I'm wondering if his total stands a chance of passing the all time record set by SarahDoesn'tLoveAdamAnyMore. That Moby guy would know, but he's never around when you really need him. Anyhow, I'm rooting for you three_ster, but keep in mind, if it doesn't work out, maybe you and Sarah could get together and create a whole family of little write offs. Just a thought. A terrifying thought, but a thought nonetheless.
Onward:
What is your favorite:
1. Soft Drink
Gimme a Coke. The real old Coke. With sugar. Not that high fructose corn sweetener junk.
2. Ice Cream Flavor
Cinnamon rum-raisin. It's my own secret recipe. Send 50 cents and two box tops along with a SASE and I'll think about sharing it with you.
3. Fast Food Restaurant
Sorry. The words fast and food just don't go together right. Oh, I'll stop at one if I'm hungry enough and there are no other choices, but picking one as my favorite makes as much sense as choosing a favorite disease.
4. Type of Pizza
I don't care as long as it doesn't come from a chain, and as long as it has thickly sliced pepperoni and lots of cheese swimming in grease. You can put anything else on it you want, including anchovies, but it's gotta have pepperoni.
5. Thanksgiving Dinner
Call me a traditionalist. At least when it comes to Thanksgiving. I've gotta have that turkey (white and dark meat), stuffing and giblet gravy. Cranberry sauce (home made) is also required, as are sweet potatoes. If I'm having guests, I'll toss in mashed potatoes too, along with a veggie or two (green beans and corn). I like pie for dessert, but I'm more apt to get a third helping of turkey and stuffing instead.
6. Snack Food
Pickled eggs, cheese and crackers, kippered herring. All together or separate.
7. Side Dish
Home made angel hair pasta with olive oil and garlic. It's simple, it's quick, and it's a nice alternative to potato or rice. Another good option is couscous. Cook it up in chicken stock, and add some lightly sautéed chopped green onions, sun dried peppers and fresh mint.
8. Food to Eat While Driving
Whatever matches the color shirt I'm wearing.
9. Food for Breakfast
My all time favorite is eggs Benedict. I make a killer hollandaise sauce, but I have trouble making decent poached eggs. Go figure.
10. Sit-Down Restaurant
Impossible to answer. There are just too many good ones. But the good ones have one thing in common. They are not chains. I'm not saying you can't get a good meal at, say, Macaroni Grill, or Olive Garden, but I doubt you'll ever get a great meal. I like to find a place where the chef is the owner, and the menu changes with the seasons.
11. Italian Dish
Sophia Loren.
12. Chinese Dish
Pranapana
13. Sandwich
It's gotta be a grilled Italian sausage, served on a fresh, bakery-made bun, topped with heaps of peppers and onions, which have been caramelized in gobs of sweet, creamy, artery-clogging butter. Lox, cream cheese and bagel comes in a close second.
14. Cheese
This is a tough one, since there is hardly a cheese I don't like. I suppose I'd have to opt for Stilton, although a sharp, aged cheddar is hard to pass up.
15. Donut
I'm not much for sweets. I suppose if I had to pick one, it would be a plain, boring old glazed donut. Still, I'd rather have a muffin.
16. Type of dessert
I'm not much of a dessert eater either (it cuts into my beer-drinking time), but if you're serving peach cobbler or strawberry shortcake, you can count me in.
17. Type of Cake
Blueberry pie.
18. Vegetable
Is there anybody who doesn't prefer fresh corn-on-the-cob to every other veggie on the planet? I sure do. I love spinach too, but it's a distant second. You can have all of my broccoli, cauliflower and asparagus.
19. Fruit
It's all good, but berries (straw, boisen, blue, rasp) are my favorite.
20. Food In Bed
I'm just not gonna go there. You can't make me. *chocolate syrup* Not gonna do it.
21. Beer
Ah. Liquid bread. Food of the Gods. In the words of Tom T. Hall, I love beer. Particularly stouts and porters. But to be honest, I'll drink about any beer, except for Bud Lite.
22. Drink With Dinner
Beer. What else is there? Except maybe for a Chianti with Italian food.
23. Fruit Juice
Tomato, preferably cut with vodka, salt, pepper, Worcester and hot sauce.
24. Meal a Guy Would Take on a Fishing Trip (thought I'd add this one)
Slim Jim's, a bag of Oreo's and a six pack.
and Finally...
24. What is your favorite meal?
Kindly transport me to Maine where I can enjoy a real shore dinner--lobsters, clams, redskins and corn-on-the-cob. It's not just good, it's wicked good.
Thanks three_ster. You've made me quite hungry.
