Ah... fall... time for many things, but, for my two boys, it was also time for... SOCCER!! Yes, soccer playing here is two seasons, fall and spring, and so it was time to outfit my boys in gear.
Now, as a mother, the first thought in my head was the image of taking all 3 kids to a sporting goods store (in my experience, the best place to get a good price, quality items, and the customer service you need to help you figure out sizing and what will fit your needs best), as I also have a daughter. Quite frankly, I got dizzy just thinking of the fights over colors of shorts, socks, soccer cleats, and then all 3 fighting over soccer balls. I quickly decided that I wanted to avoid that at all costs.
So, planning ahead, when I took the kids shoe shopping, I checked out some cleats to get an idea of what I was looking for. My oldest has almost totally flat feet that are also narrow, so I had to know how they ran. I ended up deciding that I'd order adidas. The sizes fit like my kids' sneakers, and the quality was there.
So, then came the decision. Where to buy this stuff from?
I looked online and quickly found Dicks Sporting Goods had an online store. Perfect! I love the store locally, so I figured the online store would be as good or better.
I was NOT disappointed. I found the selection of everything was bigger, they had helpful articles on how to choose the right sizes of things, the right materials they were made of, and had the balls sorted by practice, match, etc.
On top of that, no tax, many of the items qualifying for free shipping, finding a discount code online, and finding they had special kit of adidas stuff (a ball, shin guards, socks, and cleats) for my younger boy (whose feet were still small enough), and I saved a nice amount of money (about 40 dollars, maybe a little more... gas prices are high).
I immediately got an email confirming my purchase and, two days later (I'd ordered it on a Saturday), I got shipping confirmation emailed to me, too.
The shipping was ground shipping, standard shipping, so it was to take 6-10 days. By logging back on to the online store, I was able to track my purchases and was pleasantly surprised that they arrived in just six days.
Everything was packaged perfectly, and almost everything was the right size.
One pair of shin guards turned out to be too small, as I had ordered the boys the same size, but should have ordered the older boy the next size up.
Calling customer service was easy, which I did to make sure I couldn't return them in store.
So, off those shin guards go... back to the online store, but since the whole order comes with a pre-printed shipping label, it is not costing me anything.
I'll have to go to the sporting goods store to pick up one pair of shin guards for my oldest, but that is my fault, not the stores.
THe ease of navigating the site, the prices, and the fast shipping made getting ready for the soccer season heavenly.
I'm already thinking of what I'll order next (goals and things for use in the backyard).
