Chelledun's 200th Review - Nostalgia Write-Off

Sep 12 '05 (Updated Nov 01 '05)

The Bottom Line Hope you join!

This is approximately my 200th review, and thus seemed to be an appropriate time to launch my first ever Write-Off about a subject I am very passionate about: Nostalgia.

According to Wikipedia.org...Nostalgia currently describes a longing for the past, often idealized and unrealistic.

Many of you probably already know I am an extremely nostalgic person. I love watching movies and reading books from my childhood, which explains my obsession with reviewing Care Bears and Disney movies. I’m pretty convinced that MTV’s “I Love the 80’s” series is the greatest thing since sliced bread. There is something relaxing and comforting about looking back to the things I used to love. Some hold up to adult scrutiny (like The NeverEnding Story) and others just seem odd now (like Cabbage Patch Dolls) but either way it is fun to reflect on things that seemed so important in the past, and that is the subject of this Nostalgia write-off.

For this write-off just pick something you really enjoyed when you were younger and try it out again. Rent it, read it, or visit it and write a review of it. You can comment on how the product itself or your opinion of it has changed with time. Personal experiences and reminiscing are welcome!

Some examples are…

-A favorite childhood movie (usually free to rent at your local video store!)
-A book that fell apart because you read it so many times
-A park, city, or other destination that you have enjoyed as a child and been able to visit again as an adult.
-A favorite board game that is still being manufactured

Use your creativity! Obviously the main limit is that the product must still exist for you to try it again and for it to be in the database. Even if it doesn’t you could still just write a writer’s corner piece if there is an item you feel particularly nostalgic about which is no longer being produced.

I think you can learn a lot about a person through the experiences that shaped their childhood and I look forward to reading your submissions! If you decide to join just send me the link and I'll post it here.
