Sonique 1.95..
From Sonique.com:
“Sonique is the Web's hottest media and MP3 player. It features support for all the latest audio formats, a killer user interface, customizable skins and visuals, and built-in access to music resources on the Web. Hi-tech and award-winning design...”
I love Music Match’s Juke Box with its CDDB capability and MP3 ripping features. For just playing MP3s, however, it takes up too much of my RAM. That’s when I went to www.zdnet.com and typed in ‘easy+free+mp3+player’ and was shown the way to the Sonique download (sponsored by Lycos).
Sonique’s MP3 player, has an excellent interface. With a right click on it’s face, it will smoothly toggle between Visual Mode and Playlist Editor (along with, of course, a link to Lycos MP3 Search). When you’re adding songs to Sonique’s playlist, you can set up Sonique so that it will not automatically start playing the songs as soon as you add them to the playlist. That is a really big plus for me. I like to set up my playlist before the music starts. The user can select MP3s to play alongside audio files from CD as well as streaming audio from The Internet.
The limitless skins (available @ sonique.com) range from beautifully simple to RAM-cramming-rainbow-Quake-flavored dimensions.
This review is the result of using Sonique 1.95. At the time of this review, Sonique (http://sonique.lycos.com/) was still working on Version 2.0.
