| fdesignnet's Full Review: Siemens SL45 |
My main attraction was the MP3 player and I am more than satisfied with my purchase. I got mine with a monthly tariff and managed to save £80 by shopping about, so if you decide to go ahead and purchase one, this is definitely one of those times to look about before opening the wallet.
What is so great about the SL45 then ?
Well, firstly, it comes with a nice docking station, charger, head phones, CD software and instructions. The basics are easy to pick up but utilizing all the functions may take some time so if you know someone who has one ask questions to make this process less painful.
Apart from the MP3 player, the phone contains various organizer functions, dictaphone, Internet access, stopwatch, currency converter, digital voice recorder and 7 games. There is a simple menu system for easy selection and a built in WAP style help section incase you get stuck. IR connection to your handheld / laptop is also a plus.
Now for some more specific detail on a few of the SL45's functions to help wet your appetite and sway your decision.
SOFTWARE
As expected, the software is easy to install and when the phone is docked to your computer and you click on the phone icon a window comes up, displaying the phone folders making it easy to download the specific files to your phone by "drag and drop". These folders can also be viewed on the phone via MENU - SURF/FUN - CARD EXPLORER selections. Be warned it can take a while to transfer MP3 files, took 45 minutes to do 4 songs, but the results were great. Don't transfer too many or the 32Mb card, that come as standard, will be used up limiting other functions.
LOGO
There is a built in BITMAP folder in the CARD EXPLORER section from where you can change the logo design between 6 preset SIEMEN designs. But if you get bored of them why not design your own using Microsoft Paint, saving it in Monochrome Bitmap format then transferring it to the phones BITMAP folder.
DICTAPHONE
Another nice little functions. Record phone calls, saves writing down directions !!!! Or record your toddlers chatting and transfer the "WAVE" file to your computer for prosperity.
VOICEDIAL
Found it easier to set up voice dial on the SL45 than on my previous, no names mentioned, mobile. Don't bother with setting a voice dial for your taxi number cos' next time you are worse for wear it will cause frustration when the phone ignores the slurs. However it could be a chance to test the durability of the phone !!
CALENDER
Nice built in calendar function in the ORGANIZER menu. The date range will out last the life of the phone, just like any other electronic calendar. You can add memo, call, meeting, birthday and voice memo to any date and time which have an alarm ring attached to it if you wish for prompting you. For someone like me who works various shift during the week it is handy as I can set my wake up alarm for the week by day and there is no fiddling with the old alarm clock late at night after a few hours of surfing the net.Built-in MP3 Player
