Pros: Inexpensive, fast, high resolution, accurate colors.
Cons: Software has a few bugs, scanner produces streak from reflection down one side.
The Bottom Line: Highly recommended due to top quality scans, however, be aware of possible light streak caused by internal reflection. Update..Epson replaced my original unit under warranty at no cost.

| paul246's Full Review: Epson Perfection 1250U Photo Flatbed Scanner |
I have now run several hundred photos and documents through my scanner. To my dismay, a persistent vertical streak is being produced down the right hand side of most photos. The streak coincides nicely with the chrome guide bar that is inside the scanner body (under the glass). What a shame, as otherwise this is a near perfect machine. The software is easy to use, however, there are a couple of little problems here too. First, a minor irritation is to have the Epson PhotoSmart window popping up when it has not been requested to do so. Perhaps it is my computer, as I find re-booting stops the problem for a good while before it inevitably returns. A more serious problem that I have experienced is the sudden shutdown of the PhotoSmart program when I have a large number of photos scanned but not actually saved. Naturally, all of my work (or the scanner's work I suppose) is lost when this happens...not fun. Again, perhaps it is just my computer. I read reviews on other Epson scanners that mentioned the streaking problem. I feel I must return this scanner to the retailer, I really hate to do it as I am otherwise very impressed with its capabilities.
Update as of 18 Feb 2002.....I sent the scanner back to Epson due to the streaking problem. Epson elected to replace the scanner with a new 1250. The new machine performs flawlessly.
