Don't Make My Mistake

Nov 22 '06

The Bottom Line Hire a professional to go over each inch of the bike. Period. NO exceptions!

So I joined a great motorcycle group online, met a wonderful friend who even trusted me to ride her bike so I could see if it felt comfortable to me (had never ridden such a large bike)...
Long story short, I purchased a gorgeous Suzuki VS1400 from a group member who told my friend, her husband and me that this amazing bike belonged to his deceased brother and it had been loved and taken care of in every way. And the only reason he was selling it is he had to buy his wife some transportation (Oh - and a brand new Harley was sitting in his drive way:) It was (and is) absolutely breathtaking all the way down to the leather saddlebags and the tank bra...
Bought her and took her out a bit here and there, building up my confidence on such a big bike after being away from riding for many years.
When I bought her, the previous owner explained to me that the oil leak which he called a "piddle" was nothing to worry about - it's just an insignificant leak, he said to us. Uh huh. Why not believe him. He's a member of our group, right? Has a nice home and his wife even served us bottled water on a hot, humid day while we were standing outside talking (and he was hoping to sell me this bike). Oh, and I did ask the right questions as follows: 1) has this bike ever been dropped? 2) any damage at all? Answer - only once and it was "gently dropped on a turn" and the ONLY damage is a loose peg, which he pointed out... Sure seemed like the perfect bike, right? No problems, right? He is a trusted member of our motorcycle group, right?

Wrong. My bike is, as we speak, sitting in a shop in the Houston area, too dangerous to ride per a Suzuki shop here in my area as my beautiful bike has been wrecked, and the engine casing is cracked (of course none of this was disclosed to me). Long story short, it's very dangerous as the oil can give way and pour out at any time, on a turn, at anytime. And I could be hurt or worse.
People - BUYER BEWARE!!!!

MAKE SURE TO HAVE ANY BIKE YOU ARE SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING BUYING LOOKED OVER BY A PROFESSIONAL NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE BUYING FROM... Pay a fee up to $100.00 to cover your bottom, friends! I wish I had done this!!

Don't make the same mistake I made. I bought this bike 3 months ago and I wasted $2800.00. The money is gone, the bike will be garaged, until I can figure out what to do or if I can do anything to repair her. And ya know what? The previous owner says maybe I wrecked it... LOL Uh huh... this is one lesson learned, friends.
Be cautious and ride safely!
