I have been buying from Computer Geeks for a couple years now and highly recommend the company. Compared to other online parts stores, I have been impressed with the quality of their products and quickness of shipping. I've never had to call their customer service because their products and timeliness have been suburb.
I originally found this site because I was looking for a part for an older computer. They have a lot of items that are discontinued. I also like how they go into great detail about the products. The specifications, product requirements, informational links, warranty, shipping weight, part number, everything is listed on the page for the item. It also indicates if it is Mac or Linux compatible.
My Experience
I go to their site every week just to see what their specials are. They always have specials on the front page. I received a free Jamit hand-held recorder with my last order which was recycled into a cool present which my son loves. They also have a link for new arrivals.
This month I bought a Kodak web cam for $32 and some other small items. They were shipped within a day and arrived on time. (Takes UPS awhile to get from California to Florida or you can pay for faster service). They send an e-mail to let you know the item has been shipped, and you can also find the status on their web site. The packages have always arrived well-packed and the items have always been in perfect condition. I saw the same camera we bought at Computer Geeks in the local store for $50.
What They Carry
Computer Geeks purchases manufacturers excess, overstock computer related items, and hard to find computer parts. All items are stored in their California warehouse and therefore everything advertised is in stock and ready to ship. I believe their web site is derived from their database so you're getting real time items. Nothing goes on backorder so you don't pay for something and find out 2 days later that it's on backorder like some companies do.
You can find refurbished and hard to find computer items here as well as ordinary computer and electronic items. Just because they sell it one day, doesn't mean they'll have it the next. There is a marker on the web site to let you know when they are running low on stock.
Although the majority of the items are computer parts, they also have cool electronics from time to time. Like cameras, video game equipment, and cell phone accessories.
Shipping Costs
Computer Geeks ships the same day if orders are placed by 10AM. They use UPS and shipping needs to be to the same location as the credit card or alternate address filed with credit card company.
Buying in Volume
If you buy in volume you can e-mail Computer Geeks and they will send you a quote. You can also use them as a vendor.
History of the Company
This company has been in business since 1996. They sell directly to consumers as well as e-commerce.
Return Policy
All sales are final but carry a 90 day warranty. Any non-working products need to be returned in 30 days and must have an Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number to be returned. Shipping costs are non returnable.
Returns of product, other than for exchange or replacement, are subject to a 15% return fee. Shipping fees and/or return shipping costs are Non-Refundable.
Safety of Site
They are a member of the BBB (Better Business Bureau) Online Reliability program. What this does is verify that the address, company information, headquartered at that location, phone number, street address, minimum 1 year in business, and more.
Drawbacks
One of my personal complaints is that they have so many pop-up ads. I don't mind banner ads, but it irritates me when everything freezes so credit card ad or an unwanted ad pops up. While I was at the site today, 8 banner ads popped up.
Another drawback would be the business of their site. I've never had any "problems" finding anything but it does take a little more effort than other sites. In some sections they have a list (just words) and a colored circle, colored triangle, or colored square next to it and you have to match it to the key. Then you can click the link to see the item (which means your not shopping by pictures). There is a list on the left of topics to search by (monitors, motherboards, scanners, video conferencing...). It should be easy to find a product if you are looking for it, but makes it difficult for browsing.
Overall
Overall this is a good site to check when you're ordering parts for your computer. The prices are usually very competitive and they are fast to ship. This would be an even better deal if you're buying in quantity.
