| jagc's Full Review: General Reviews of MCI Worldcom Customer Service |
I only wish I would have read these opinions before I would have signed up for the service. I have never had a problem with MCI long distance, although I know a lot of others have. Unfortunately, Worldcom wireless is absolutely the most poorly managed, incompetently run, dishonest and untrustworthy company I have ever dealt with.
I signed up for service in July 2001, and it took them two weeks to set up the service (when I was with Sprint, my phone was on when I left the store). Then I started into the notoriously incompetent billing system. I received bills sporadically throughout the summer. I set up the automatic payment system by credit card. I spent 50 minutes on hold confirming that they were going to charge my credit card for the monthly charges. Did this ever happen? No it did not. Does that surprise anyone given the other reviews on this company? It should not. So I then receive another bill the next month, with last month's charges on it and a late fee. I called them and waited another 30 minutes to talk to them about this situation.
After I finally was connected to a customer service representative, I asked him why they did not charge my credit card. The rep said that they had stopped automatic payment procedures. I asked why they hadn't given me notice of this, and he replied that he didn't know, but that I still had to pay the fee anyway. I will remind you all again, that they did not bother to send me any notice that they would not charge my credit card!
So then I send them a check for the full amount including the late fee. I then get in the mail a notice that my account had gone to collections. I immediately called them and asked if they had received my check, and they said they had not. However, I received the canceled check later and found that they had actually cashed the check two days before. They flat out lied to me. So fearing adverse action on my credit report, I paid the same amount, $186.41 by credit card. So I paid the bill twice.
Now I have paid the same bill twice and I have no credit on my account for $186.41. So, in effect Worldcom Wireless has stolen $186.41 from me. As I am writing this review I am currently on hold for the thousandth time trying to resolve this issue.
Dealing with customer service is just like everyone else has said. You never talk to the same person, never get a straight answer, get transferred to someone else who doesn't know what is going on and your issue is not resolved.
As an attorney, I probably am aware of more avenues of redress than the average customer. I sent them a letter detailing my situation, included a copy of the canceled check, the credit card statement and a demand for payment. I have yet to hear from them. I demanded that they resolve this situation within 14 days or I will file suit in my county. This means that they will have to defend themselves where I live which is a real pain. Hopefully they will not show up and I will get a default judgment against them and then they will be under court order to pay.
I also called my credit card company and put the charges in dispute. Hopefully I will not need to file suit and the credit card company will fight those B@stards. I do wonder how many people are out there that have had their credit reports damaged by this irresponsible company. I wonder how many times people are overcharged, charged illegal late fees. I wonder if there is a law firm out there that is considering filing a class action on behalf of all of us "victims" of this company. I hope there is. I'll gladly join the fight.
