National Library Week Write-Off 2009
Feb 09 '09 (Updated May 13 '09)
The Bottom Line Join the second annual National Library Week Write-Off and appreciate all your library has to offer!!
Libraries have always had a special place in my heart. Excuse me for saying that I actually enjoy the smell of old books. Many of us have fond memories of being in the library as children, and the memories have increased as we've gotten older.
Many people think of books immediately when they hear the word library but believe it or not libraries are so much more. In the library that employs me (http://www.plainfieldlibrary.net) we have miles and miles of books (picture books, comic books, hardcover books, paperback books, audiobooks, etc.), CDs, movies and TV series' on DVD, magazines, local yearbooks, historical documents, and so much more. There are also public computers, meeting rooms for public use, programs for anyone and everyone, as well as a fabulous art gallery. Libraries have definitely evolved but continue to appeal to and house things for everyone.
Don't you wish you could show your library a little love?
As a long-time library user, lover, and employee, and as a brand new admit to graduate school for library and information science, I'm proud to announce that April 12 - 18 is National Library Week. (Visit http://www.ala.org/ala/aboutala/hqops/pio/natlibraryweek/nlw.cfm for details.) This is the perfect time to try spending a little more time in your favorite or local library. Check out what they have to offer, and while you're there give your librarians the lovin' they deserve!
In honor of National Library Week I am hosting the second annual National Library Week Write-Off. (Last year's W/O was incredibly successful... check it out here!) Like last year, the idea is simple: review something that you've borrowed from your library, whether its a book, movie, magazine, etc. You may also choose to simply recall a special library program you attended or a library-related memory. In your review, be sure to include a little snippet of information about your library. This can be a memory from your childhood, your experience picking the material you're reviewing, your favorite thing to do at your library, what your library is doing to participate in National Library Week... you get the idea.
The rules are simple and generous, and surely you've borrowed something from your library so this should be easy as pie! Feel free to submit as many entries as you want.
The National Library Week Write-Off begins as of this posting, and ends at the end of April. To submit an entry you may leave a comment on this thread or email me a link to your review at mailto:laurashrti.eps@gmail.com. Please mention this write-off, and possibly a link to this announcement somewhere in your review.
