I'm Tired of Eating Crow

Apr 28 '09

The Bottom Line I"m tired of eating crow when it comes to hopes and dreams for my autistic teen.

For the past 18 years I have had to eat a lot of crow when it comes to my autistic son.
And to be honest with you, I’m tired of eating crow.
I had to eat crow and realize he would not be able to get a regular high school diploma.
I had to eat crow and realize that he would not be able to get a GED.
I had to eat crow and realize he couldn’t even go to Shepherds College (the disabled students university) because he cannot get a GED.
I had to eat crow and realize that he cannot get into a technical school because he cannot get a GED.
I had to eat crow and realize that he would not be able to get into a culinary school (except for Young Chefs) because he cannot get a GED.
And now I’m eating more crow because he may not be able to go into the technical school program for our county’s school system because of his mental inability to function.
Crow tastes awful.  Crow makes you sick.
And I am so sick and tired of having to eat crow when I have dreams of eating something else.
I understand why I cannot eat squab or some other exotic pheasant because there’s no way that would ever be on our menu.  We’re not expecting something that expensive, just something a little bit better to chew and something that tastes better.
Yes, turkeys are ugly birds and chickens have jokes made about them for why they cross the road.  But I would take the ugliness and the jokes in order to have something common and normal come into my life at this moment to give me something to look forward to in regards to what’s on my menu of life as this moment.
But I don’t have chicken or turkey.  I have crow.  Ugly, nasty, sickening crow.
I’m tired of eating crow.
