| victoriasmum's Full Review: Disney's Mickey Mouse Toddler |
We purchased Mickey Mouse Toddler 2 years ago, for our then 2 year old daughter. The Mickey Mouse Toddler computer program is targeted for children between the ages of 18 months to 3 years old. Though my 4 year old daughter still plays with it and is not quite ready to part with it yet. We purchased our Mickey Mouse Toddler from our local Cosco for $19.99CDN, although the average CDN retail price is around $29.99CDN.
Mickey Mouse Toddler was easy to load into our computer and performs many educational games for your little one. when you first start up Mickey Mouse Toddler you will be playing with Mickey himself, he will cheerfully welcome your little one to a game with him. Mickey plays an alphabet game, before you start though you have to cover your eyes and say, "ABC, XYZ, come along and hide from me!" My daughter loves doing this. When your child opens their eyes, there are letters hiding around the outside of Mickeys house. Of course they are hiding in obvious places with corners and edges sticking out. Mickey will patiently tap his foot while you search and sometime impatiently look at his watch. As your child finds each letter Mickey says the name of the letter to your child, when all the letters on the screen are found the game continues with the little rhyme and them more letters appear. I always encouraged my daughter to tell me the name of the letters as she revealed them, there is some hesitation before Mickey says the name to give your child this opportunity.
Next you can play a Shapes game with Minnie in Mickey Mouse Toddler. Minnie will be infront of her house and different objects around the house will be the particular shape you have to find. These too are quite obvious. When Minnie says to find Triangles, the window on her house will be a triangle, along with the tree out front etc.
Now on to a colours game with Goofy. You will find Goofy lazily lying out front of his house asking you to help to paint it. You put your paint brush into the different colours and patterns of paint, bring your brush to the house and voila! You can also change the roof shingles, type of fencing and the shape of Goofy's front bush in this game, by placing the mouse on the noted objects.
Who is left you ask, well how about learning numbers with Pluto? On this screen one of the chipmunks will pop out of a group of holes located in front of Pluto's dog house. He will be holding up a number and won't disappear back into the hole until you place the mouse over him. I encourage my daughter to say the number before she makes it disappear.
Last but not least is a noisy game with Donald, Daisy also makes an appearance. Donald wants to have a nap out front of his home, but you want to wake him up. You drag your mouse over objects on the screen to make enough racket to wake him up. When you wake him he will yell....QUITE!!!
I find Mickey Mouse Toddler to be a great introduction to the computer for your child. I never bothered with the games geared to any younger an age, and did not even use this one till my own daughter was 2 years old. The child is not required to 'click' on any of the objects, they simply move the mouse over them and they will respond.(Another review stated this as a negative to this program...are we forgetting this is geared for children 18mths to 3 years old?) I find this game is wonderful for teaching your child how to use a mouse. In the beginning stages of our use with this program, I would have my daughter point out the objects to me on the screen and I would move the mouse. Now of course, she does not need MY help.
We have recently purchased some new programs for our daughter and I tried getting rid of some of the old, including Mickey Mouse Toddler. I was told by her in no uncertain terms was she ready to part with it. So I would say that Mickey Mouse Toddler is a definite hit and my home, and I highly recommend it for yours.
Thanks for reading
Michelle :-)
