The tripod is a very convenient device that allows you to avoid excessive shaking while shooting. It also allows you to do relatively smooth panning and up-down camera motion.
Plus, you don't have to hold the camera all the time and the camcorder can be fixed in certain position while you are doing something else.
I bough this tripod on eBay and, although it is inexpensive, it works quite well. The tripod's legs are telescopically expandable with 3 sections and adjustable locks that can fix the telescoping sections in any position.
The head pans left-right and up-down and you can also move it up-down. The position in all these respects (pan, etc.) can be fixed by a screw-type knobs.
The camcorder is attached to it by a standard rotating camcorder mount.
The tripod comes without a bag of any kind, so you have to either carry it by itself or in the box it comes in.
The tripod is lightweight and compact in folded state. Of course, it is good for carrying it, but it makes it a bit less stable. Also, the panning action is not as smooth as more expensive models provide.
Still, it is a good investment.
