Now that's some good information for solving the problem to have a quieter dishwasher. A lot of people would not have thought of doing that. I also love the quality of Kitchenaid products. I have their side-by-side refrig and love it. Thanks for answering about the filter for the Bosch.

hi-
If silence is your highest priority, congrats, a Bosch is your best bet. The information (filter)was given to me by none other than a Bosch sales rep. I like their products, don't get me wrong, but I had clean dishes as my number one priority. The Kitchen Aid is still more silent than most all others (Kenmore and such..) by comparison, but true, Bosch is DEAD silent.
Making any dishwasher practically noise-free is an easy do-it-yourself project; Just prior to installing it, wrap an extra layer of (thin) heat-proof insulating fabric around the top and sides. You can find this at your local Home-Depot in the building supplies section for about $17.00 a small roll. Use heat resistant silver (not duct)tape (plumbing/HVAC section) to fasten it in place. Please be sure to monitor your dishwasher's built in venting system for the first few runs as it may increase the heat output on lesser brands. This is an easy fix, and will dramatically lessen the overall operating volume. TRAVIS

I have a Bosch dishwater and I have not ever gotten anything out of the filter. Who told you this about the smell of the filter in a Bosch? But good review on the Kitchenaid d/w but it sounds like its loud unlike my Bosch.
