BMG Music is one of the best ways to purchase your music online if you are like me and live in a small town where the nearest music store is 20-30 miles away and don’t shop much. I’ve been a part of BMG off and on since 1993, from the moment I became a members, I’ve been very pleased with the shipping, customer service, and everything in between. I started going through the club online back in 1999 and admit it beats having to send back those little cards and hoping they arrive on time.
For those of you unsure of BMG Music Service, it works like Columbia House buch 10x better. With Columbia House, you have to purchase several CDs at full price within a certain time frame (I think it’s 4 CDs within 3 years or something). BMG only requires you to purchase one CD at regular price, shipping is about $2.50 for each item give or take a few cents. I noticed that BMG doesn’t carry a few artists like Metallica and Def Leppard, and also have a limit on artists like Limp Bizkit. I was going to purchase Significant Other but noticed you had to pay full price, no promotion codes, or free selections were allowed, and it would not count as the committed purchase, so I passed it up and decided to wait to see what they would do, and noticed the other day they no longer carry it. There are some flaws like that with BMG, but I think it has something to do with the labels, artists, and all the legal stuff for selling music like that. But for the most part, I just like the idea of ordering CDs from the comfort of my home and know they will arrive in 5-10 days.
I’ve told friends about this place and they question me about asking why do that when you can go to a Music store to purchase the album, here’s what I told them…
The expensive way – Fill up the car with 10 bucks for gas, go to the music store, grab the CD you want for $18.00, that’s $28.00 right there alone for one CD.
The affordable way – Go to BMG’s website, pick the CD you want to make the commitment, check out and submit your info and verify it’s correct, $18.00 for the CD, and about $2.50 for shipping, and another buck or so for tax, that estimates the cost at about $21.50 for the CD to be shipped to your home, sure it may only be 5 or 6 bucks, but I like this method better.
To close this review, I am giving BMG a 5 because they have an awesome Customer Service team, fast shipping, and the online help is great too. I’ve never had a bad run-in with these guys and would recommend them to my friends, and anyone else who is into music like myself. I spent a lot of dough when I had my DJ Service; I was constantly using the place to update my library of tunes. I’ve noticed a few people had some bad luck with them and have made a note to watch for anything out of the ordinary. I’ve talked to people who have screamed because they were wasting their hard earn pay on Columbia House and not aware BMG is the better way to go. The estimated time of new releases varies and can take up to 4-6 months, that’s another downfall, but I always find something to keep me jamming until then.
