Pros: Quality, tank included, very quick assembly, great manuals, great warranty, very even heating
Cons: Way too expensive, cheesy looking removable plastic (nylon?) shelves, heat controls on working surface.
The Bottom Line: An excellent BBQ if you don't mind the price. Definitely recommended.

| pjwlk's Full Review: Weber Genesis Gold B Premium (LP) Grill |
I haven't had this grill (Stainless lid model Cdn $999) for long but so far I am impressed. Last weekend we had about 30 people over for a BBQ and put the Weber to work.
Assembly Getting the BBQ out of the box was the hardest part of the assembly. Most of the time consuming/troubling assembly is already done. All you essentially do is bolts the frame together and put the tank and removable shelves on. The instructions are very clear and although they recommend two people for some of the assembly, I was able to assemble the unit by myself. As for the “stop watch assembly” claim I would estimate that it took me about 20 minutes or so. The problem was, the minute I open the box and started the assembly, curious neigbours came over to have a look and impeded my progress by about an hour and a half. So do yours in the back yard ;) There’s even a small wrench included. I recommend using a proper wrench though.
Quality Outstanding! The frame is powder-coated which is a far, far superior (nylon based) coating then any paint you’ll ever encounter. Too bad they can’t use it for the castings (due to the heat). The double-walled stainless work on the lid is flawless. Everything on this grill from the valves to the ignitor-assembly design and installation says quality. What more can I say? You get what you pay for!
Heat Output I initially felt that the BTU output was a little thin for a grill that size but have since changed my mind somewhat. My previous BBQ had no problem searing steaks etc, but I do find it a little more challenging on the Weber. I’m not yet used to how evenly the heat is distributed throughout the grill and perhaps I haven’t previously given the Weber enough time to fully heat up. I would like to see a little more output available in case it’s needed.
Why I bought the Weber Everyone I’ve every spoke with who owns or deals with a Weber said they would buy another one – if the one they had would die that is. Only one person I spoke with said they had to change a burner, all of the rest had done nothing to their BBQs and most had owned theirs for 10 years or more. I know that I’ve struggled with my last BBQ for years to keep the thing running. I could never find the proper parts for it. The parts I did find where sub-standard. The Weber dealers by contrast always have parts available, even for the older models and the quality of the parts are the same as the original. Hey, it even came with a propane tank and aluminum drip trays. BTW the BBQ performed great at our 30 person party last weekend. Lots of cooking space, totally even heat.
What I didn’t like One of the reasons I bought the Genesis Gold B was because it had an extra working surface to the right of the controls. It seem pretty goofy to me that Weber put the controls on there other models right in the middle of a surface that people are likely going to use to put stuff on. I guess they really don’t have anywhere else to put the controls because of the design of the burners. I also don’t care for the “removable” shelves that they carry on about using for serving trays. I figure that if you need a tray to carry stuff to the table, you’ve probably had to carry the stuff to the BBQ on a tray to begin with, making the removable feature a rather mute point. I would much rather see it secured properly or at least have the option to, so that you don’t have to worry about them going missing in the event you can’t afford the Cdn $65 (ouch!) nylon cover. I really am not too crazy about the use of plastic shelves around a hot grill when you are likely to set something hot down onto it. (We use metal baskets for veggies etc.) The shelves I believe are made of some sort of nylon which, if true, definitely makes them better than the usual plastic. For the money however, I would have like to see either stainless or cedar (or marble *lol*)
The price was totally out of this world (for Canadians anyway). This is one of the few US products which is sold to Canadians under a direct rate of exchange (Ya I know, Boo Hoo...) That made this grill almost $1000 Cdn when it may otherwise have sold for a more reasonable $700.00 Cdn.
