| sawyerc's Full Review: Bang and Olufsen BeoCom 6000 2.4GHz Cordless Phone |
Yesterday, I bought the BeoCom 6000 plus 2 additional handsets and chargers after reading on-line reviews of several cordless phones with multiple handset capability, and after visits to several stores in our area. These included offerings by Panasonic, Siemens, Vtech, Sharper Image.
What I wanted was a replacement for an aging 900 MHz cordless for a new kitchen which would not require a phone line there. I have to say it took a lot of soul searching to spring for ~$1000, especially as the system could not be tested in the B&O sales room.
I could not be more pleased with the result. Startup was easy, once the handsets were charged. Entering names and phone numbers from my cell phone library took less than an hour. The wheel is ergonomic and easy to use. I also liked the ability to edit mistakes without having to erase back to the error and start over. The ability to add 1+ area code to the front of previously stored numbers was also a pleasant surprise. The handset fits well in my hand and against my ear.
My wife and I tested the intercom capability between handsets to 50m (all we had time for so far). The sound was so clear I could hear birds chirping in the background as she was talking. Callers sound as if they are in the same room.
Haven't yet tested party line (two handsets connected at the same time to an outside call), but it's available according to the manual.
The manual is easy to follow for initial setup. There was just one minor source of confusion. I tried charging the second and third handsets on the auxiliary charger after the first one was registered on the base. That resulted in these handsets not being automatically registered. Initiating a search for the base didn't work either, so I had to press the center button on the base and put each handset on the base to get it properly registered.
It's too bad you have to buy additional equipment to get answering machine and speakerphone capability. At this price level it should have been included.
