| rustyvic's Full Review: Asus CUSL2 |
Having reached the stage with my old board where many of the internal peripherals were capable of operating at higher bus speeds than the the board I embarked on the search for a suitable replacement. Amongst my main criteria were support for 4x AGP, a 133mHz FSB (front side bus), support for ATA-100 disk drives and (preferably) no on-board sound and graphics.
Given the large number of boards available with on-board sound chips the choice was very quickly restricted to the CUSLS2 and a single board from A-Bit. The item that swayed my decision in favour of the ASUS board was the availability of additional USB root hubs on the board allowing up to 14 USB devices to be run without an external hub.
The board came packaged with all necessary cables and connectors including one additional 3 port USB riser that could be mounted in a PCI blank and connected to any of three points on the motherboard.
Installation was easy with clear instructions provided in the manual and most advanced functions configurable through the BIOS set-up screens. In some areas the manual was a bit brief in it's description but it was better than many I've seen.
The board support wake on ring/LAN and provides sufficient power to enable suspend to RAM functionality. In my case the on-board video is disbaled in favour of an AGP Rage Fury Maxx but the chipset is of reasonably high specification for office productivity and low end gaming use.
Whilst this board is priced towards the upper end of single processor mother-boards (in Australia at least) it is well featured and constructed and represents good value.
