On June 27, 2002 I found Digitaletailer.com on a price comparison site, www.nextag.com. I was looking for a Canon Powershot S-30 digital camera, but was having trouble finding anyone with it in stock. Before attempting to order from their web site, which said it was in stock, I called them and spoke to Rick at X 212. I asked him two or three times "are you sure you have a brand new in a sealed box US model with a Canon US warranty, and with all the stuff Canon includes, IN STOCK. He said he checked and was sure. He took my order on the phone, big mistake. When I didn't get a receipt for this purchase by e-mail as promised, I called back and spoke to Lewis, who said my order was in the computer and would ship that day, 6/28. He also gave me my order number after I had to ask him several times, and said he'd fax me a receipt. That did not come on 6/28. I called back and asked Rick for a receipt, and he said he'd e-mail me one. That did not come.
While I was doing all that, Stella at X215 called to leave a message on my home phone answering machine (I was, of course, at work, and they did have my work phone and fax) saying that there was a problem with my credit card because my alternative shipping address (my office) was not listed with my card issuer. I called my card issuer to find out that they take that alternate address off their computer at six months, which was a surprise since I'd been getting stuff delivered from online stores as recently as within the last couple of weeks. I relisted my alternate address and tried to call Stella back. No answer, no voicemail.
I have called them at least four times, sent three e-mails, and can't even get a receipt. Plus, they are charging me $24.95 for UPS ground shipping on a two pound package.
On 6/30/02 I got through to Stella at X215 today to report that my alternative shipping address has been re-recorded with my card issuer. I said "can you check that out like now", and she said she would. I then asked her if she could e-mail me a receipt, but she said she could only fax one. I gave her my office fax number again, and will see if it is there tomorrow. She also said the item would ship tomorrow, 7/1.
On 7/1 I finally got someone to fax me a receipt (the receipt Stella promised did not come), after 3 more calls over the weekend and one more today. They haven't changed the price on my receipt, but they did lower the price of the camera. Also received a tracking number, so something is on its way here. If it is a US model, new in a sealed box, with a Canon US warranty, and all the stuff Canon provides is in there, I'll have succeeded. But should any consumer have to hound the seller to provide him/her with basic services just to receive what they ordered? I would not order from them again, and would strongly recommend that readers do not.
Today, July 5, 2002, I received the item, and it was a brand new in a sealed box US model with a US warranty, complete with all the factory included stuff. Additionally, it worked. It took only a week, which isn't bad considering the July 4th holiday in there. Still, their business practices are sloppy, and caused me much concern, especially in light of the other reviews. I would still not be able to comfortably recommend that anyone use them, but I will up my rating to 2 stars since they did actually get the product I ordered delivered to me in a week.
