Cons: Terrible customer service, Non-responsive. Contracts are VERY restrictive!!!

If you buy a phone for a reduced price by signing a contract with Cingular, you are going to be a big sad loser!!!--like me. Cingular seems the most attractive service provider (especially if you have or want to buy a GSM phone), but once you sign, you realize that the coverage area sucks! I live in SF which supposedly has a good coverage area. NOT by Cingular! During peak hours, 2 out of 5 of my incoming calls don't get to me. Instead the callers hear "all lines are busy, please try you call again later." If you can risk that, ...
During "late-night" hours (when a lot of people supposedly get free minutes), it's virtually impossible to make or receive a phone call!!!!
Unless you already own your phone (in which situation I don't know how exactly the plans work), your phone will be locked by Cingular for the duration of your contract. This means that you will not be able to use another provider. This is what happened to me. I purchased a Siemens S40 phone (a tri-band phone that can work all over the world) thinking that when I go abroad--which i do quite often--I would be able to use a SIM card by a local GSM network and therefore not pay a lot for local calls. If you try to use Cingular overseas, you will be paying outrageous fees!! Something that adds up to $3 or more per minute! Cingular does not allow you to use another provider's SIM card while u have a contract with them. Your phone will become locked and then u won't be able to use it. It will take a long time to have it unlocked by the company--if they ever will, given that their customer and technical support is totally incompetent, or perhaps they just don't give a damn! :(
