Pros: adds clarity, definition, bass and detail to music

The Bottom Line: Great little amp that can provide a good listening experience to people who listen through portable players. Although not "audiophile listening experience."

| bmbrown911's Full Review: HeadRoom AirHead |
During this past summer I began to get involved with headphone listening as my main source of audio listening. So I decided to purchase some Grado SR60's which by themselves sound great with a portable player. But I kept reading about the headphone amps on the headroom website and decided to save for the airhead amp. Just to see what kind of a difference these amps really can make. I ordered from headroom and got in 2 days. When I opened the package I didn't know what to think. On your first look it does seem rather flimsily made. Completely made out of plastic. But when I looked past all that and plugged it in I wasn't impressed right away. I kept changing back and forth from the amp and without it and only then did I really notice the differences it provided. Playing music like System of A Down I began to hear stuff I never heard in the music. I thought that was pretty cool so I listened more and more and heard even more details. So far I haven't had any trouble with distortion like everyone else has had. Although a couple of times it cut out when I was carrying it with me. Don't expect some gigantic leap into audiophile listening because in reality thats not what its for. Its for providing an extra bit of power and clarity to headphones that are very inefficient such as Sennheiser HD600 and Beyerdynamic DT931. Theres no doubt that some of the more expensive amps could run circles around this ones sound performance but for a price. Also the headroom processor was nice. Although it showed up more on some music then others its also a great feature. Its a great little amp that gives you some added clarity and bass to whatever headphones you may be using. I deffinately recommend it. But just realize what its made for before you purchase it!
