Pros:
Excellent sound with reasonably efficient phones. Adds bass, clarity and detail.
Cons: Plastic case. Won't adequately drive inefficient headphones.
The Bottom Line: Outstanding customer service. An absolute must for those that crave the best possible sound out of a portable. Not for those with grossly inefficient high-end headphones

| sholling's Full Review: HeadRoom AirHead |
I originally bought a Headroom Airhead to improve the sound of my Senn HD-497 headphones when used with my portable. I can't adequately describe the improvement. Let's just say that the bass finally has the clean solid punch that had been missing, and the clarity and detail were improved to a degree that shocked me. No way could I go back to un-amplified listening! I know because I had to for a week while I traded up to the higher end Total Airhead. The Total Airhead is an upgraded model with audiophile grade components. I didn't have the base model long enough to really judge the difference in sound but I do think that they are both well worth the money.
Some people have complained of hissing and other noisiness that Headroom admits plagued early models. I have the later 3 x AAA battery model and I can tell you that the Airhead is very clean until overdriven (oh my bleeding ears level with the HD-497's) and the Total Airhead is clean all the way to max volume. Unfortunately part of the reason that I upgraded was to be able to use my new Senn HD-600's with my portable. The HD-600's are notoriously inefficient (300ohms vs. 30ohms for the HD-497) and while the little Total Airhead can drive them to conversational volumes it just isn't big enough or powerful enough to bring the HD-600's to life.
Customer service was unbelievable. When I called a real live person answered the call by the third ring and put me right through to another delightfully helpful person that cheerfully answered all my questions. Exchanging the original was also a delight. No RMA required just fill out an enclosed form and mail the package.
