Pros: It's cheap. I got mine for $4.96 at Hastings.
Cons: It's not entirely true to Warhammer 40k.
The Bottom Line: If you're a great fan of Warhammer or Battletech then it might be a game worth looking into.

| brothergoose's Full Review: Warhammer 40000: Chaos Gate |
Chaos Gate is somewhat based on the Warhammer 40k universe. It uses some of the same type of functions, and there are familiar elements, like bolters, heavy bolters, las pistols, frag and krak grenades. Thought I haven't played the second edition rules of Warhammer, I think that it's more similar to those rules than the 3rd edition rules due to functions like overwatch.
What's different than Warhammer 40k?
There are new weapons, like blind grenades and defoliating grenades. The play is turn based, but each character has a certain number of action points, which could result in a character standing still and shooting 4 or 5 times a turn, rather than the normal one shot you'd expect, except for rapid fire and automatic weapons of course.
What's the game play like?
The interface is a little confusing at first, but after you start moving the mouse around you find different hot spots, and the manual is actually helpful. The characters move in hexes, and over all it reminds of Battletech.
I'd have to say that the worst part of the game play is that you don't have very many forces to work with. You start off with a few tactical squads, and one devastator squad. To get terminators you have to raise the experience of characters to veteran and then earn terminator honors to don the armor. When someone dies, they're dead. I know that sounds kinda cheesy, but you don't get them back in the next mission. So if people start dying, then toward the end of the game you won't have but a few squads, and that can be severely limiting.
I do like the experience gaining for all of your characters.
If you like the Starcraft or Warcraft type games, then you might enjoy this one. It is much more tactically based though, since you do have a limited number of Marines, and no way to produce a huge army of overpowering flying beasts to eradicate your foes.
Who would I recommend it to?
I'd say it's worth looking into for any huge fans of either Battletech or Warhammer, but I wouldn't go out of my way to find it or spend a great deal of money on it. If you're a strategist then it might offer some interest, but I'd say that it was easier for me to learn because of Warhammer and Battletech, and anyone new to those realms might find it too confusing to want to work out.
