I purchased a Sony dcrtrv240 camcorder. Sony advertised a $100 rebate for this camera. The camera arrived with the UPC (required for the rebate) missing from the box. I contacted I Buy Digital by email and phone. They assured me the UPC would be sent in 10 days. They said they routinely remove the UPC codes to protect against "resellers" (whatever that means).
It's been over three weeks and they haven't sent the UPC. I contacted them again by email and told them to immediately send the UPC, refund me $100, or send instructions to return the camera. They replied that they "certainly would send it", but failed to say when. The time is running out on the rebate offer. Something fishy is going on with this company. I checked the Better Business Bureau and found out they have a bad rating (customer complaints).
Before making this purchase, I had checked the Epinions rating (above average) and MySimon (certified with their highest rating).
I plan to contest the charge on my Visa, and file a complaint with the BBB. I've already complained to MySimon.
I guess the lesson to be learned is that no matter how careful you try to be in checking out the company, a ripoff is still likely. I would have been better off to have purchased from a local store, paid a higher price and received the rebate.
