An ION of dust can ruin your day!

Allergies are all too common, and dust does not help them in the slightest. Would you like it if you could stop all those annoying allergies associated with dust mites and the like? Well, now you can! A product made by Sharper Image called the Ionic Breeze has come out, and it is taking the allergy industry by storm.
Over the years, I have become more accustomed to my allergies, but never did I truly accept them. I had never heard of this product before, nor did I even know that anything of this nature existed. One day I had come home from college and found this weird looking alien like tower of a filter sitting in my room. At first, I did not even have a clue as to what it was; it was not making a sound. Finally, I decided I would find out, so I went to my parents for the answer. My Grandmother had gone and bought it for me because she had heard that it would rid the air of dust and allergens in the air. This was especially good for me because of the particles of dust that come out of my computer systems, and because this house is just so old.
Needless to say, I left it in my room, thinking she spent too much, ( not actually knowing how much she spent on it yet ), and not really thinking it would work being that it does not make a sound. After a week of use, I noticed that the clean light was on, so I thought that this meant that the room was clean. I went to college that day, and while I was there my Grandmother noticed that the light was on and cleaned it. When I got back the light was off, and I thought something had happened during the course of the day. As I inquired as to what was wrong, she told me that when the light comes on, it means that it needs to be cleaned. Eureka! Duh!.
Therefore, after waiting yet another week, the light came back on. This time I knew what to do, so I took it out and began to wipe the collector plates with a very dry but slightly damp rag. I let it sit out for just a few minutes and put it back into the unit. It worked perfectly. I looked at the rag in which I just used on the unit, and it was filthy. I could not believe my eyes. This stuff was in the air constantly, and the unit was keeping it away from me. It was not any wonder as to why I could now sleep comfortably and not wake up with a runny nose, or a scratchy throat.
Maintenance of this unit is not hard at all. Just let it do what it is supposed to, and every now an again, clean it. About once a month, you should really give a good clean, and by this I do not mean just wipe off the collector plates. It is a little bit harder to do this, and some do not like it, but you will hear why after I finish with the steps.
Step 1: Take off the protective covering on the front. To do this, take the cover and pull upward while pushing the tab at the bottom of the cover.
Step 2: Take the light bulb out of the unit.
Step 3: Wipe, very carefully the column in the very back on the unit. You will see dust collected all over it.
Step 4: Wipe off the light and then wipe off the collector plates, and re-assemble the unit as before.
While this does sound tedious and not worth the effort, what happens is that the dust that gets stuck to that little plate in the back causes this unit to make a ton of noise that begins to sound like an overgrown bug zapper. Not exactly what I want to hear at midnight while I’m sleeping. Maybe while I am a little out of it, but not while I am sleeping.
Sharper Image does carry replacement filters for these units, and they sell for around $40.00. I’m don’t understand why you need a replacement filter, unless the collector plates after some point lose the ability to hold the electric charge, or because of breaking. Either way, you have the option to buy another. Who knows, maybe you will use one while the other is drying off from the cleaning recommendations they offer.
As for the Ionic Breeze, this unit is perfect not only for those who have allergies to dust, but also pet dander, smoke, unsightly smells, and other air borne problems. Do not past this offer up! You will have sixty days to make a decision on whether you like it or not, but I will even go as far to say that after sixty days, you will not want to send it back.
