| pinkskittle's Full Review: Body For Life |
Ok, I picked up this book very enthusiastically. I read some of the personal stories inside the book of tremendous weight loss. Very motivating!
basics of the diet
-in 12 weeks, you'll look and feel like a million bucks.
-you eat 6 times a day (including shakes full of aspartame that he suggests) on a tight schedule. Write down everything.
-10 cups of water a day (you also write it all down).
-eat only foods on the list. you have to eat 1 portion of protein and 1 portion of carbs each meal, include 1 portion of veggies with 2 meals.
-meals are the size of your fist.
-20 mins cardio, first thing in the morning, 3 days a week.
-weight train for 46 mins, first thing in the morning, 4 days a week.
the things I liked
-only 20 mins of cardio! (besides the weights, but still, cardio for me is much more difficult).
-really healthy food choices.
-a "cheat day" where you eat whatever you want.
the things I didn't like
-you have to eat on a schedule. I'm a really busy student, I have classes between 8am and 6pm, I don't have time to prepare meals ahead of time, nevermind have time to eat them and the cafeteria hardly provides any of the allowable foods.
-working out on a schedule. which is hard for me because i'm already so busy.
-the workouts aren't that fun, but i can see that he's tried to make them that way. my kind of fun that relates to exercise equals sports. sports are fun, counting to a number lifting a big heavy bar is not.
-limited amount of recipes in his book (but the Martha Stewarts of the world would obviously not have troubles in this department.)
-the shake he promotes is very expensive and full of aspartame. If you plan to do this diet, go to a health store and get their unbiased advice on a protein/meal replacement shake. They're still expensive, but not nearly as much as the one he promotes.
I really don't have much else to say about this book.
I used it for a month, started seeing great results, but unfortunately I just can't fit it into my life.
