Pros: No copy protection, great built-in microphone, nice controls, great battery life, USB 2.0 optional
Cons: Slow navigation, poor in-unit file management, low volume output
The Bottom Line: Tons of space, love the recording capability, love the ability to hook up to any computer. A bit bulky but I'd go for it!

| mikewood123's Full Review: Archos Jukebox Recorder 20GB MP3 Player |
I did extensive research before purchasing this unit and chose it over the iPod because of its recording capability and its ability to accept regular AAA batteries in case I was unable to recharge the NiMH ones (I'm planning on doing some traveling).
The price is great and the recording quality is surprisingly good; very little background noise. However, there are little "skips" in recordings presumably from a hard-drive hiccup during recording.
This unit also treats your MP3 files as any other file and does not attempt to implement any copy protection. Other brands make you jump through hoops to view your MP3's on other computers, transfer them to friends, etc.
And I like the USB 2.0 option which allows you to use regular USB 1.1 while offering the USB 2.0 high speed capability if you have the port.
The most surprising con of this unit to me is the low volume at which you can play back songs through unpowered headphones. You can't blast it, I'm thinking of picking up some powered headphones and while I'm at it maybe I'll get some noise-cancelling ones!
