| groovinator's Full Review: Verizon Mobile Phone Service in Salt Lake City/Ogd... |
I am going on my third year with Verizon. The first year was pretty crappy. They had mediocre coverage at best. But they upgraded their service sometime during that year. Now it is rock solid. I have a hard time finding a place where I don't get a good signal. On multiple occasions I have been with friends or family that have had different services and we have gone to use our cell phones and they couldn't get a signal and I could. As a matter of fact, we use my brother in laws basement apartment now as a judge of good reception. Only AT&T and Verizon cut the mustard. Every other service, which is tried in the apartment, either needs some serious coaxing by standing in certain areas or being near the door or flat out doesn't work.
Every year when I have shopped for a plan it seems that Verizon gets my business. Three years running now. I have always gone with a family plan, mostly because the wife and I like to stay in touch. This year though we considered the possibilities of using 2 different plans and even providers since she uses her phone a LOT more than I do. We shopped T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint, and one other that I can't remember but it was horrible. I wasn't going to go back to Verizon because the 9PM start of nighttime minutes and the fact that checking my voicemail uses my voicemail really bothers me. However, we ended up back on the family plan with Verizon. The 4000 free mobile-to-mobile minutes clinched it for us. By the way, those Mobile to Mobile are only good between Verizon customers. It's a good thing my mother in law switched from AT&T to Verizon a while back.
Anyway, my current plan is $90/month for 3 phones which includes 700 shared anytime minutes, thousands of night and weekend minutes, 4000 individual Mobile to Mobile, Free long distance, free roaming in Utah, Idaho, and 2 other states (I think Colorado and Wyoming), Free unlimited minutes between family phones. We can also change our plan every month to fit our needs, which is VERY nice. When we head back to New Hampshire to visit the sister-in-law we will be switching to the national coverage plan for the month so we can use the phones on the long drive back East.
I have my mother on this plan with us and she lives in St. George. Her phone doesn't have a local number for her but she can use it for emergencies or to call me anytime she needs or wants. This is great since she gets free roaming in St. George.
