| SMITHSWOODSIDE's Full Review: Frigidaire GWL10 Washing Machine |
As my regular reader knows (hi Mum), I don't often do product reviews. This is not because I don't want to - its just because living on the Ethiopean end of the Australian economy we rarely buy anything. For instance our attempts to buy two slices of bread instead of the whole loaf is usually frowned upon, despite a whole loaf of bread being a hell of an investment.
When times were better a few years ago, we did manage to buy a new washing machine and fortunately we made the right choice.
Being Australian, I was surprised that in the USA the poor old mums have not been able, until very recently, to enjoy the Fisher and Pykel washing machine.
I don't recall exactly how many years we have had ours, I suppose because it has been completely trouble free.
Doing the washing is now so easy even I do it sometimes. It has very few parts to go wrong and I like the fact it's big enough to do all the wash in one load - well that's when I do it anyway, even if I have to jump up and down on the contents! Actually, thats not recommended.
We always wash in cold water and the clothes are just as clean as the hot water buffs, and the power saving is enormous.
The machine can distribute the detergent, but that doesn't seem to really matter - we often just sprinkle a bit on top of the load.
Now I know that in some parts of the planet people transfer the washed clothes to a drier. Generally that is not done here. Washing machines are always housed in a laundry on the ground level of a house and laundries have their own exit door to outside. Clotheslines are in close proximity so its no trouble to hang the wash out to dry, virtually any day of the year.
Drying is very quick because the spin cycle approximates that of a Boeing 747 at full thrust so most of the drying is done by the machine. Although open to some dispute we believe clothes smell better when hung outside and since they are bone dry in less than an hour in summer and less than two hours in winter it's a good excuse to have a rest.
Fisher and Paykel offer an excellent warranty in the unusual event it should ever be needed.
This brand really does make the competition look pretty dated. And that is irrespective of price. This is truly a futuristic machine, and whats more it even looks like one.
Now for those that just have to know all the specifications, heavens knows why, these are freely available from the manufacturer and in the brochures.
Do yourself a favour - replace the old grinder with this baby as soon as you can and find out what a real washing machine can do.
