Pros: Solidly built, very quiet
Cons: Muted colors and poor blacks on Premimum glossy pape
The Bottom Line: I would recommend the Epson 2200. There is the advantage of archival inks but if you like to print only on glossy paper, the 2200 might not be for you.

| mike_moss's Full Review: Epson Stylus Photo 2200 Inkjet Printer |
I just purchased and Epson 2200 as an "upgrade" from my Epson 1280. My first difficulty was my large 11X17 pictures were very grainy and very poor quality. I found that if I turned off the "fast printing" function, the quality improved a lot, but the colors seemed to be less vibrant than on my 1280.
I then printed a picture that I had previously printed on my 1280. The colors on the 1280 were MUCH brigher and the blacks appeared to be perfectly glossy and on the 1280 print, but a matte type finish on the the 2200. All of the colors seemed to be more matte then gloss.
The alleged reason for this is that the 2200 uses archival inks. Because of this, the quality is slightly less according to Epson.
Because of my disapointment with the printer, I now plan to return it.
Addendum:
I have since purchased another Epson 2200 as my 1280 died and it was hard to find another 1280. What I have found is that my new 2200 is much better than my previous one. I suspect the first one was defective. There are still problems with blacks when printed on glossy paper. The blacks appear muted. To fix this problem, you should print on either the Epson luster or semi glass paper. The result is outstanding prints. If you picture doesnt have blacks, likely the print will look OK on glossy paper too.
