Just Say No To The Stain Specialist! Oxi Clean Instant Spot Remover Wipes

The Bottom Line: This product failed to work even though I carefully followed their directions. I would recommend against it, unless you want to risk ruining your clothes.

Alas, I think I have been led astray. I love the Orange Glo/Oxi Clean products. They rarely disappoint. That is why I was excited to see that they had come out with a new to me product, Oxi Clean, The Stain Specialist Instant Spot Remover Wipes, and I ordered them immediately. I am quite happy with Shout Spray and comparable products, but liked the concept of taking the little wipes along with me in the car, and wherever I need to go. A stain arises; I have the solution. Well, that was my thinking at the time.
Product claims/hype:
The manufacturer tells us that you can take the wipes anywhere, and it will remove your stains instantly. You can place them in your purse, wallet, car, work, and not concern yourself about spots marring your impeccable appearance. They state that OxiClean Wipes don't just pre-treat stains, they eliminate them! But, their own packaging "note" contradicts their claim!

Packaging:
I purchased 10 individually wrapped towelettes/wipes that came in a small turquoise blue box. The cost was $3.99. I really like the packaging as the box takes up very little space, and the towelettes are grouped in twos, are easily torn apart, and the towelettes taken out of the wrapper. This is frankly the best part.
Directions noted on packaging:
* Remove additional soil from stain with a damp cloth or towel.
* Press OxiClean Instant Spot Remover Wipe onto stain, massaging from outside of the stain toward the center.
* For treating clothing stains while wearing, put a dry cloth or towel underneath the area to be treated to prevent contact with skin.
* Dispose of wipe after each use.
* To reduce residue, rinse OxiClean Wipe with water and treat spot again.
Manufacturer's Note:
Not all stains are completely removed with OxiClean Instant Spot Remover Wipes but most stains are greatly reduced in appearance. Always follow manufacturer's cleaning instructions. If unsure about using this product on certain fabric/surface, test in an inconspicuous area first and allow to dry. Safe for water-washable fabrics/surfaces only. For best results, launder item after use.
Warnings:
Do not use for personal hygiene (they have to be crazy). Keep out of reach of children and pets. May irritate sensitive skin. Do not ingest. Wash hands after use. If product gets into eyes, rinse well with water.

My experience:
I was at school, and noticed a stain on my new jeans. I feel very self-conscious when I notice a stain, so as I had one of the little packets in my purse, went to the restroom and followed the directions, planning on actually washing my jeans when I got home. What ended up happening was that I went from one medium sized stain to several stains, and I was very upset. I trusted the manufacturer to alleviate the stain, as their products have almost always satisfied me in the past. I did launder the jeans twice when I got home, and that improved the situation a little. I am debating as to whether the stain would have been removed more efficiently with this product or merely some soap and water. I've used Shout wipes in the past, and they worked wonderfully, so I shall return to that product.
Final thoughts and recommendations:
I am not pleased with this product, while I really like the packaging and the concept, it caused aggravation for me, rather than alleviating a problem. Perhaps it depends on the type of stain you have, or the material that the stain is on, but based on my experience I cannot recommend the product. Perhaps you will have more success than I did. I am giving it two stars.
