How Much Can ACTUALLY Fit Into Your Parents' Car?
Jun 02 '00
You feel like you want to take everything with you from home, mainly because home is generally where your "comfort zone" is.
It was frustrating, terrifying, and elating for me the summer I packed before my freshman year (as the years go on, you better learn what to pack and what to leave).
*First note, before I give my list, it is VERY helpful to know the approximate SIZE of your room so you do not try and bring TOO much (my mistake). :o)
And, now "THE LIST"
- a microwave - even an older one --- college food can stink
- mini fridge - see above
- a few plastic dishes, silverware, cups, etc --- for eating in room when meal choices stink (hmmm... are you noticing a pattern here?) :o)
- quarters for laundry - its hard to get change late at night
- phone cards - to help lower those phone bills
- snacks - pack your faves, you won't realize how poor you are 'til you get there
- pictures and posters from home - you want to be comfortable ... but please keep in my mind if sharing a room to not pack anything too offensive
- a tape player, CD player, etc -- along with fave music
- coordinate with a roomie about who has what (I bring the microwave, you bring the minifridge) .... but keep in mind, if the arrangement does not work out, you are not out their appliance!
- stationary, stamps, etc ... again you cannot afford to buy this stuff
- flip flops - I hated them, but many shower stalls are nasty
- fashionable, but tasteful bathrobe
- shower caddy
- tv, vcr, nintendo -- if you have these type of things, your room will soon be the common "meeting" room
- sturdy backpack - college texts are HEAVY!
- laundry basket - I had 2
- your OWN alarm clock -- don't rely on someone else
The list could go on and on, but you have to choose which items are most important to you. Most of these items I found that I could not live without!
Hope you are off to a great start!
