Pros: nothing that their competitors don't already do better Cons: - Bad Coverage
- Penny-pinchers
- Unforgiving policies
- Pricing is nothing special
US Cellular's rates for plans are certainly nothing amazing in the bargain department. Their prices are generally the same as or more than their competitors. Coverage is terrible and scattered. I'm okay at home, but the second I so much as go down ...
Pros: Pretty good reception. Cons: The worst customer service I have ever encountered on a consistent basis.

Pros: They are really good in your calling area and for long distance. Cons: Roaming charges are bad, you get screwed on cancellation, they don't care about your situation.
I was a US Cellular customer for almost 2 years in Wisconsin. I needed a phone for long distance and it worked with the plan they had. The roaming killed you at times so you had to watch it. I had a plan for $44.99 a month I got 1000 anytime minutes, ...

I have had Nextel... JUNK. Cingular which I thought would be better - JUNK. WORST reception ever! I was a bit leery with US Cellular, I didn't hear too many great things about them. 3 months ago I got the 1000 mins for $39.99 plus I pay the $5.99 for ...

Pros: Good service, Good reception Cons: The insurance plans
I was a customer of US Cellular from 1997 to 2002 at which time the area I was living in didn't have enough US Cellular towers, so I switched to Alltell for one year. It was the longest year of my life. I switched back to US Cellular two years ago and ...
Pros: The actual phone service worked. Cons: The ABSOLUTE WORST MOST HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE I've EVER DEALT WITH IN MY LIFE!!!
I have used US Cellular Service for about 5 years. One year ago I renewed with a 2 year contract to go with a nicer LG phone which I also shelled out $70 for. After a few months my phone started giving me trouble. Whomever I called could hear me but I ...
Pros: Great advertising to hook you in. Cons: Terrible service. Rip-off.
U.S. Cellular is a scam. Their constant response from their customer service reps is that they are sorry, I must have been misinformed. Or, they are sorry, they don't know why that amount appeared on my bill. I am constantly overcharged--sometimes they ...
Pros: Cheap plans, cheap phones Cons: Horrible customer service & service representatives in the stores misrepresent.
I purchased our first phones in 2002 when they blitzed the Chicagoland market. We ended up canceling the service due to financial reasons. This is when they pro-rated the contract cancellation fee. We really had no problems. I purchased one for my ...
Pros: In view of the poor service I can think of absolutely no Pros. Cons: Sales reps are, at best, poorly trained and/or deceptive. Service is unacceptable.
This company is the pits. I was lied to when I contracted for the service and have been lied to everytime I have gone back to them for help. I purchased their Span America plan and was told it was nation wide. That I could make and receive calls anywhere ...
Pros: Excellent Customer Service.
Good phone service while in town.
Many anytime minutes for the money. Cons: Outlying coverage not as depicted on maps.
Can't get voice mail on roaming.
I have had U.S. Cellular for nearly a year now, and I am mostly happy with it. Call made are for the most part clear with only occasional dropped calls or interference. I have found a strong signal throughout the Chicago area. Voice mails come in when ...
Pros: Good selection of phones Cons: Bad: reception, customer service and rates...actually customer service isn't just bad, its HORRIBLE!
Sure, I pay this company a lot of money each month for their service but apparently that doesn't entitle me to the best service possible only the bare minimum. I was on the old TDMA system and wanted to upgrade to the new CDMA system. In my mind I ...
Pros: Great package, nice free Nokia, awesome customer service, can change plan without penalty. Cons: I was too cheap for the $4.99 per/phone per/month insurance.

Pros: BAD COMPANY>>>GO TO SOMEONE ELSE FOR A PHONE Cons: BAD COMPANY TO DO ANYONE LIKE THEY HAVE DONE US
My amputee husband and I have phones, mine is fine. His Audiovox quit working and they told him to back over it with the car to get insurance to pay for it or send 40.00 in with it to ins. co. to have it fixed. Another US Cell place sent it off no charge ...
Pros: I'm speechless. I really have nothing good to say about them. Cons: Bad reception, always dropping calls, roaming in local areas, bad customer service, etc.
I just canceled my contract with Cingular because I was tired of the high bills and having my bill messed up every month so I decided to go with US Cellular before I did my homework. The plans were cheaper and they had better looking phones than ...
Pros: Excellent coverage, clear signals, calls indistinguishable from landline calls, low prices Cons: Can't really think of any now [updated 5/27/04).
I have had US Cellular service since December 1997. Originally, I signed up for analog, and then converted to digital in 1999. Their calling plans are excellent in that they offer local, regional and national plans (most carriers now offer only local ...

I have been a US Cellular Customer for about 2 years now. I haven't had any problem with them until they made me "upgrade" to a "newer technology" phone, ie, the nokia 3585i, as i added on a share line for my younger brother. Ever since i recieved that p ...
Pros: The best coverage in the Northeast. Many store locations. Cons: Service isn't Necessarily cheap.
As many people should know, Cellular service is different all across the country. I've read a couple reviews about unsatisfied customers in the midwest, but I can only say that U.S. Cellular's service is the premier service available in the northeast ...
Pros: NONE! Cons: Lost signal frequently; Willing to take your money but not give good service
I was a US Cellular customer for 3 years. The only reason I stayed was I didn't want the hassle to change my phone number. A lot of my business associates have my number and it would be difficult to inform them of the change.
Pros: CLEAR MESSAGES, EASY TO USE Cons: IN 2 YEARS, THEY'VE CHANGED A LOT OT PRICING, AND I THINK I MISSED OUT
In Sept., of 2001, I needed a phone that was easy for me to use, to keep my son safe. I had neglected getting a cellular, as I hadn't paid that much attention to whom offered what, in services for the money. But, when my son's life was threatened, as he...
Pros: Good connections, no "problem areas", good price Cons: Insurance plan for phones not a good deal
After being an unhappy Sprint customer for over a year and hearing good review from US Cellular, I decided to give them a shot. Ive been a customer now for a year and a half, and the only complaint I have is on their insurance plan.
Pros: Good choice of plans and phones. Cons: The voice mail is cumbersome.
WOW, great service. 700 minutes anytime minutes (local area) with free long distance, roaming and all nights and weekends free and all that cost me I.01 and this is total with tax! I have yet to use more then my 700 minutes but for $5 you can get 1100...

Pros: Exceptional customer service...good local/regional coverage area...decent rates...true nights/weekend Cons: Not available everywhere:( A little pricier than some plans.

Pros: Good coverage, good plans, good prices Cons: sometimes not so good customer service

Pros: Reasonably priced plans and very helpful sales staff. Good choices of Plans. Cons: Some very good deals not advertised - have to pry them out of the company.

Pros: CUSTOMER SERVICE, CUSTOMER SERVICE
Cons: NONE
We recently needed to review our phone plan due to our son attending college in a calling area on the fringe of wide area coverage. During my research I still found US Cellular to be the best option. During our decision between National plan vs. wide area with our son on the National, we dealt with three customer service agents. Not that each agent didn't answer our questions, but that I continued to have more questions with the customizing of our plan. Each agent took much time in reviewing our need based on historical bills and current need. They also offered to allow us to renew our plan ahead of the date authorized be a local retailer. They were very understanding to our need and willing to help. We have never had this kind of help with any other carrier we have had in the past, and we won't look to.
US Cellular has great service! by elbell91603 ,Jul 11 '06
Pros: Good, reliable service with competitive rate plans. Free incoming calls! Cons: Costly ring tones when purchasing but most companies are!
I am a BzzAgent and got my phone in March sometime. Setting up the phone was quick and easy. The man on the phone talked me through the set up of my voice mail and other features of the phone and was very patient and helpful while I went through the steps on my phone. I am not idiot, it was just tricky talking on a land line and setting up voicemail on a cell phone at the same time. My service has been great here in suburban Chicago and have no complaints!
Terrible Coverage and Customer Service by hj1016 ,Dec 06 '05
Pros: None that I can think of... Cons: Coverage, Customer service, Price of overages
I live in Bend, OR and have a family share plan. After having lived through 15 of 24 months of the contract with dropped calls, calls that go straight to voice mail, etc., we finally have had enough and want to switch to a different carrier. USC has dragged the issue out for weeks now, and want to create yet another trouble ticket to confirm that coverage in my area is bad. I feel harassed and calling Customer Relations has not helped better that feeling. The person I talked to was rude and condescending and has absolutely no empathy or desire to help resolve the issue.
Thank you for coming to St. Louis! by pepprman98 ,Sep 03 '05
Pros: Great network, phones/plans and associates. Cons: No instant rebates.
I am just glad we have a choice in St. Louis now! Will all the major carriers here you would think we would have more competition in the market, but I guess not. St. Louis is one of the most heavily penetrated markets in the country at 70%+. they have great deals going on right now too! $20 off for the first 6 mo., free activation and their phone's are amazing! the Motorola v710 is a $400 phone, and in other markets they are selling at $200. $40 after rebate!!!! You can't beat that! Also their network is amazing. I have never dropped a call or not been able to connect. With all the other companies trying to make that money, I'm glad someone out there is trying to look out for us...
Pros: They have many offices and they bill in a timely manner. Cons: The service has severely declined in the last year.
I have had US Cellular for ten years but I will be changing carriers when my current contract is up in October. For some reason unknown to me my phone now goes to roaming when I am in my living room and 20 feet away it is good service. I have at least 2-3 dropped calls per day and people I call are complaining that when they leave a voice mail message for me only part of the message is recorded. It seems that the service areas are not as complete as they once were. There are major dead spots in the service area and my phone rarely indicates more than three bars of service and at times No Service (in my driveway). The price of the service has increased and the performance has declined. When I call customer service I am simply routed through an endless maze of forwarding and being placed on hold. It isn't worth the price anymore....someone else is certainly better.
Pros: Customer Service, CDMA, Plans & Features, Service Cons: Motorola v810 being dumb :P
I've had U.S. Cellular for almost 4 years now, and have yet to experience a single problem with them. They have EXCELLENT customer service (at no charge too by dialing 611). When I had Verizon, a mistake was made on my bill and I had to be forwarded to a manager atleast 3 times (calls were dropped lol), but with U.S. Cellular, they made the same mistake and it was fixed within 3 minutes. The service is excellent - they also use CDMA technology, which is leaps better than GSM, which has horrible quality in Chicago. Last but not least, they have affordable plans and actually LISTEN to thier customers, unlike other companies. Way to go!
Best cellular company I've been with by rda30 ,Feb 06 '05
Pros: No billing problems at all. Reliable coverage and equipment. Cons: National coverage not too good if you travel.
I've been with Sprint PCS, Southwestern Bell Wireless (Now Cingular), AT&T Wireless, Alltel and US Cellular is the most reliable out of them all. The customer service is great, no long waits on the phone if you need to call. I get coverage in areas that Sprint never could or was roaming. US cellular is great in Oklahoma.
find out what the hidden fees are BEFORE you get the bill by faeriemaiden14 ,Feb 01 '05
Pros: you get lots of anytime and night & weekend minutes but that's it Cons: their employees are deceptive and watch out for those hidden fees
I liked the service until i got their web extras. I was told that I would pay a certain fee for so many megabits then got my bill and found out that I was being charged by the kilobit also. My bill was almost $500, $440 more than I was told it was going to be. When I refused to pay for the extra fees, they canceled my service, that added on yet ANOTHER fee for a breach of contract penalty. $700 for what was SUPPOSED to be a $60 phone bill. I obviously DO NOT recommend getting this service but if you do PLEASE do yourself a favor find out ALL the details no matter how small you think they are, they could be big details out of your bank account come the day your bill arrives.
Very Pleased with Service by speedymax ,Jan 21 '05
Pros: Best service I've had Cons: Not a single complaint
We are currently subscribing to 6 plans, in southwestern NH, through US Cellular in my family. I switched to them about 4 years ago and have since added my parents and my children. We have all traveled extensively throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico and have consistently had better service than other people whom have been with us with various other providers.
Customer Service with US Cellular has been excellent. Their reps have always sat down with each new user I've added to discuss the best possible plan for them without over selling. On two occasions, due to life changes, I've needed to change a plan to better suit the new needs and the reps did so with out question and without fee. In all this time, with all these plans, they have never made a billing error and they have always answered every question I've ever had.
I highly recommend them to anyone in the North East looking for an honest, reliable, responsive cell phone provider. Their plans a competitive and their billing and customer service are superior.
US Cellular customer service is terrible by newmanmr ,Jan 04 '05
Pros: US Cellular pros are nothing that you can't find with any other provider Cons: Customer service will take advantage of your any way that they can
US Cellular customer service is the worst. After I heard with my own ears that there would not be a disconnect fee for changing providers, they charged one anyway and claimed I misunderstood. They've been poor in the past regarding billing as well. Stay away from US Cellular if you don't want to get screwed out of your money.
Pros: None Cons: Dropped calls constantly. Full service one minute, no service the next. Customer service is awful.
As a business owner, and one who relies heavily on my cellular phone, it was clear in the first week that US could not provide the service I needed. It was a good day, if I could get through one phone call without being dropped, ugh! So when the 1 year contract expired, I signed with another carrier and canceled my US account immediately (in the 13th month). My account had already been automatically rolled over for another 1 year contract, because I did not call within two weeks of the expiration of the original contract, I had to pay US cellular $167.00 to buy out of this 2nd contract. These are the kinds of things you don't remember a year after you sign on the dotted line. Don't make this costly mistake!
S. Oregon - US Cellular vs Ramcell by craigtee ,Jul 27 '04
Pros: Decent customer service and they honor their contracts (unlike Ramcell of Oregon) Cons: Coverage is spotty (mountainous region), expensive.
We left US Cellular to go with Ramcell for the shared minutes feature. What a mistake!!! Although US Cellular's coverage area is not the greatest, at least they don't change your contract halfway through it and still try to hold you to the contract! Ramcell reduced the "roam free" calling area from 10 STATES to a 4 COUNTY region and then charged all their customers a cancellation fee (either in phone surrender or cash) to get out of the contract. US Cellular, on the other hand, at least fulfilled their end of the contract for the entire term of the contract.
If you live in S. Oregon and are considering either of these two services, go with US Cellular. At least they have the ability, resources and desire to honor their end of the contract.
Cheap plans, but AWFUL Customer Service by besenber ,Jul 19 '04
Pros: Promo plans. Reliable service. Cons: Low-tech phones. AWFUL/ unknowledgeable customer service. Company that values poor service reps over paying customers.
I was very happy with the promotional plan, saving 50% off the normal price made me very patient with the awful customer service. When I bought the phone, I was told I had email capability with my phone- this was in fact not true. Over time I repeatedly contacted customer service and got different reasons and timelines as to why I did not have service and when I will. The best was, "no provider offers email on their phone, I must be confused." As the customer service phone company- they FAIL to meet their obligation. When I finally canceled my account 1yr later because I still did not have email, they did penalize me $200 because they said I did not cancel with good reason. I said US Cellular repeatedly promised me email and never provided it. US Cellular's response was that it was never in the original contract, so I am in error.
Pros: Customer Service usually answers quickly, if called during business hours. Cons: Dropped calls, echo on line, hours on phone with CS.
I've been with US Cellular for years, and stayed with them because my service worked. They're behind the times technologically-speaking, but what I care about most is having a phone that works. Recently, they've really gone downhill in my area. I've been having a serious problem with dropped calls, and a strong echo. I've called customer service at least 20 times. I've traded out phones, which was no help. I've taken my phone in for evaluation, and spoken to engineers. I've had problems with echoing for around 7 months, and serious dropped call issues for over a month now. I use my phone in my employment as a nurse, and need my calls to get through. I've asked to be released from the contract, but things don't look good in that regard. I'm really disappointed with US Cellular right now.
Pros: Good Coverage And Good Pay If You Last in the career. Cons: A company that has forgotten who pays the bills
I started With U.S. Cellular In 2000 I Have Since relized the horror of the company i work for they have no care for there associates they simple view all of us as exspendible no matter the amount of phones you sell or the customers you help in the eyes of the high brass you are simply an employee of a company that could closely resemble that of nazi germany what i decided in the last few months was to somehow tell weary consumers that once this company has you unless you hold a seat in congress you belong to them with high disconnect fees and and even higher group of customer service reps this company will do what it takes to take you beware of the wolf in sheeps clothing check all your options and never sign a contract longer than you have to i am not a disgruntled employee because i am still an employee and just like our customers am trapped from leaving.
Decent Phone, Customer Service Stinks by anavrin27 ,Jan 14 '04
Pros: Reception, fairly inexpensive Cons: Customer service is horrible
A year ago I finally found myself ready for a cell phone. I popped into my local US Cellular store to get signed up for the easiest to understand plan.
I opted for the 750 mins for $45 bucks. So far it's been okay, except for one minor snafu. The customer service with US Cellular is sub par.I have found everyone I have ever spoken to regarding my phone or bill to be uninformed, confused about the plan they are supposed to be selling to people, and downright rude.
Other than that, my Nokia phone has been pretty reliable. The plan has worked well, reception is good, yadda yadda. I just think they need some customer service work.
Worst Company I've Ever Dealt With! by mattb777 ,Dec 10 '03
Pros: NONE! Cons: Bad Phone, Bad Signal, Terrible Customer Service, Dropped Calls, HUGE Rip-Off!
U.S. Cellular is the worst company I have had to deal with. My reception is HORRIBLE. I usually drop a call every time I am on the phone. How is that for reception? The customer service is just as bad. I brought my phone in several times to have it checked, and they said I would have to return to the city where I bought the phone to have it looked at, even though I had moved. When my phone finally stopped working all together, they gave me a crappy loaner phone and said I would get my original phone back in 4-6 WEEKS! They should call themselves U.S. Smellualr!!
